Although Marvel Studios may not be hosting a panel at Comic Con International 2015, Marvel Television will be there with its two ABC series, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Agent Carter. While S.H.I.E.L.D. season 3 will premiere this fall, Agent Carter won't return for its second season until early 2016, which means much about the series' sophomore outing is still unclear.

Though a season synopsis has been released, only three of the main cast have been confirmed to return. However, in terms of the other cast members, Peggy Carter herself, Hayley Atwell, seems to have confirmed the appearance of  Howard Stark in season 2.

In an interview with Den of Geek!, Atwell mentioned that Dominic Cooper would return to his role as Howard Stark for the second season of Agent Carter. In speaking about season 2, Atwell said she hadn't begun working on it yet, but briefly discussed the setting and which season 1 characters fans should expect to see again.

Read Atwell's full quote:

"I’ve not started work on it yet, but it’s been written. I do know that, one thing they have decided, is that it’s going to be set a year later. So it’s 1947, it’s going to be set in L.A., and I keep on thinking about L.A. Confidential, that kind of film noir, which would be great. And I think there will be a new romantic interest, um, and then I think there might also be… Well, there will be, repetition of characters. So Jarvis and Howard will be there with us again. Yeah, we can’t have a show without those guys."

It was reported last week that James D'Arcy, who plays Howard Stark's butler Edwin Jarvis, and Enver Gjokaj, SSR Agent Daniel Sousa, would be returning as series regulars for season 2. Additionally, though it was unconfirmed, it is expected that Chad Michael Murray (Agent Jack Thompson), Bridget Regan (Dottie Underwood) and Lyndsy Fonseca (Angie Martinelli) will return as well.

Agent Carter Season 2 Return Peggy Carter Howard Stark

Atwell's comment should be taken with a small grain of salt since Marvel has yet to announce Cooper's involvement in Agent Carter season 2 - and he was only a recurring character in season 1. But, Atwell does make the point that Howard has become as integral a supporting character to Peggy as Jarvis. With a fan-favorite character such as Tony Stark's father it would seem Marvel would be remiss not to include him at some point in season 2, even if only in another recurring or guest role.

Of course, if Howard should be included in season 2, that begs the question of how Agent Carter will develop his character. With Peggy evolving in season 2 to a lighter and more humorous version of herself, fans may like to see Howard learn from his mistakes in season 1 - in particular, how his inventions have evolved following the theft of his "bad babies" and the consequences that resulted.

Since the executive producers have already confirmed Peggy and Jarvis won't be working for Howard as they did in season 1, that leaves the inventor's potential involvement in season 2 open to possibilities. Perhaps the cast and crew of Agent Carter will clear up these casting questions when they appear at SDCC later this week.
