Brittany Murphy Obituary Actress Brittany Murphy Gone Too Soon – Dead at 32

Death has been working overtime this year. So far, Hollywood has lost legends Ed McMahon, Farrah Fawcett, Karl Malden, Bea Arthur, Dom DeLuise, John Hughes, Michael Jackson, Patrick Swayze, David Carradine, Billy Mays and with only a couple weeks left in 2009, death has claimed the young life of actress Brittany Murphy.

According to TMZ, Murphy was found unconscious in her shower this morning by her mother around 8 AM at her home in Los Angeles, California. Paramedics quickly came to her house and determined that she was in full cardiac arrest (read: heart attack) and performed CPR all the way to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, just a few miles away. Attempts to revive her were unsuccessful and she was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Brittany Murphy is survived by her husband of 2 years Simon Monjack and had no children.

Brittany Murphy was a beautiful actress with a varied and prolific career spanning TV, movies and music during her short 32 years. Her first major movie role came in 1995 in Clueless followed up by great performances in Girl, Interrupted in 1999 and 8 Mile in 2002 with rapper Eminem. From there she had a couple of misses in 2003 in Just Married with Ashton Kutcher and Uptown Girls but quickly found favor with women everywhere with her tear inducing performance in Little Black Book in 2004.

In 2005, Murphy snagged a role in Frank Miller’s violent black and white comic movie Sin City as Shellie and then sort of disappeared from movie screens but never left acting. She had a voice role in the 2006 CGI musical Happy Feet and voiced the character Luanne Platter on King of the Hill from 1997 to 2009. It’s unfortunate that she was in The Asylum action/drama MegaFault, released just a couple of weeks ago, because she was a much better actress than a B-film of that nature.

Fortunately, Murphy’s legacy will not suffer the same undignified fate like John Candy or Raul Julia who’s last films before they passed away where the atrocities Wagons East and Street Fighter respectively. Murphy has four more films in post-production that will release next year, but none are more anticipated then The Expendables.

As this story develops over the next few days, I’m sure that rumors of drugs and late night parties with guys that weren’t her husband are sure to be in the spotlight because that is what the media likes to do. Controversy, sex, drugs and people in the public eye falling hard from grace sell papers and bring web traffic.  Having a heart attack at 32 is a rare event and there is sure to be an autopsy to determine the exact cause but how about just this one time people ignore the sleazy media paparazzi and just remember a young actress who time on this earth was far too short?

Our thoughts and prayers are with Brittany Murphy’s family during this time of grief as Hollywood once again lowers the Silver Screen flag to half-mast.

  1. That sucks. I really liked her.

  2. I smell Atkin’s Diet…

  3. “Paramedics quickly came to her house and determined that she was in full cardiac arrest (read: heart attack)”

Cardiac arrest is not the same thing as a heart attack. The two are quite different, as I found out when MJ died.

Tragic news, though. She was far too young.

  4. So sad, she was a great actress. I really enjoyed her in the films she did.

  5. Very sad news indeed. Rest In Peace, Brittany.

  6. This is really tragic, especially at her age, “Don’t say a word” and “Uptown girls” are her best roles in my opinion. I always believed she would make a great Harley Quinn, Joker’s sidekick on Batman.

  7. Rest in peace Cutie.

  8. man this year was insane I cant belive how many people we have lost in the entertainment bizz. RIP

  9. I’ll miss you Brittany. You were very talented and a great entertainer. I’m sad to see your life cut far too short.

  10. Rest In Peace.

I never found her to be a good actress, and only two films that I can name that I liked her in. Never-the-less she will be missed.

  11. This is just terrible. She was a great actress and person. Funny, smart, and very beautiful. RIP, Britt. We’re gonna miss ya.

  12. Sooo tragic. She was a great actress and even had a nice voice.
She had a club hit not too long ago with Paul Oakenfold,
“Faster Kill Pussycat”. Def worth checking it out!

    She will be missed…

  13. A very beautiful and talented woman. My condolences to her family. R.I.P.

  14. sad day

  15. Damn.
    I liked her too.
My condolonces to her family and friends.

  16. Whyyyyyy

  17. I really loved Brittany Murphy as an actress, her quirkiness and great smile and laugh really drew me to her as a fan. I have a signed Sin City print from her that I have framed with some other Sin City stuff (cards and poker chips) that I’ve had displayed on my wall for a few years, RIP beautiful lady.

  18. I had a huge crush on her when i was a teenager :) Bye Brittany, you will surely be missed.

  19. She always pretty much kept herself to herself, not a publicity hound as far as I could see. But her acting stands out most of all, perhaps not incredibly versatile, but believable in her roles all the same. She will be missed.

  20. she will be missed RIP BRITTANY

  21. The good die young………R.I.P.

  22. Such a shame, loved her in Sin City and Dont Say A Word.

I hope the press dont feel the need to drag this out and make up lies about her.

  23. sad.

  24. Her range as an actress was made quite obvious to me when I discovered that she was the voice of Luann on King of the Hill. It’s much harder to play a convincing dumb character than someone smarter than you.

Night and day to Shellie in Sin City. I can’t imagine her not being in Sin City 2.

This is a real crying shame. A low-down, dirty, crying shame.

  25. Time is a Thief….R.I.P
