@Former Oscar Fan...

I think telecasting the Oscars on HBO would be a great idea. At least, the show would be shorter and air uncensored and unedited. :)

A small community in Southern California nominates and awards films they like - meanwhile the rest of the nation could care less about not only their choices but the actual winners so that's why America does not watch anymore.

I am sure that Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin will be funny - but is that what the Oscars have become? Gone are the days when you could care less about who the host was because you wouldn't dare miss the Oscars because you cared about the films being nominated - you actually had favorites! and you care who won them. Our family reunion - in age from 17 to 81 - over sixty people and none watch any awards shows anymore. And the reasons are 1) too many award shows 2) that there is no star or film nominated that are of interest.

HEY - America used to be huge OSCAR FANs and I never missed one from the 1960's through the 1980's - but in the 1990's they just started on their downhill spiral. What I would watch - is a rebroadcast of the 1930's - 1970's Oscar shows - now that would be really interesting.

And the politics - both on how the nominations are decided on and how the winner is picked. The personal comments that they make about their moral or political views? Let their comments reflect their thanks to friends/families or their craft - GREAT. Your doctor doesnt give you acting advice, I am not interested in moral or political advice from an actor on an award show - PERIOD!

The Oscars are going the way of Miss America pagents - soon they will be on cable TV (most likely HBO!) because their viewership will continue to decline no matter who the host is.

George Clooney? Really? We all know that he feels that the Oscars is a venue for shoving his political beliefs down the throats of those unfortunate enough to see him speak... Thank goodness he's not hosting...

Ross you must be forgetting the upcoming film, "Its Complicated" starring Meril Streep, Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin.

Its pretty complicated, here's the plot of "Its Complicated"
(Meril gets caught up in a romantic love triangle with Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin.)
Hi-fricken-larious!

Amazing coincidence that they're co-hosting the Oscars,,, ;-)
Pluto must be in Saturn this week?

@Ross Miller & Gary...

As much as I like the thought of having Downey Jr.and Stiller
co-host the Oscars, the person I'd have the most empathy for is the poor person who's in charge of the 10-second delay button, especially if something's said which shouldn't have been said. ;)

While Martin and Baldwin may be a "safe" choice, I think it might work. At least, we might not have any bleeps during the program.
