Honest Abe is going to kick some serious vampire butt in Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, but he won’t be doing it alone. According to new reports, two more up-and-coming actors are in negotiations to join the cast of the Timur Bekmambetov film alongside star Benjamin Walker.
Deadline is reporting that actors Anthony Mackie and Dominic Cooper are in talks to join Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter in major supporting roles. Mackie, who is also starring in the upcoming Matt Damon film The Adjustment Bureau, would take on the role of Will, Lincoln’s best friend.
Dominic Cooper (who was also rumored for a role in Thor back in the day) would take on the role of Henry Sturges, a good vampire who teaches Lincoln the art of slaying. The role of Lincoln’s mentor had been attached to a handful of bigger-name stars, including Joaquin Phoenix and Tom Hardy, before Cooper was approached for the role.
As this film continues to shape up, I’m excited to see what Bekmambetov and his young cast can do. At the C2E2 comic convention in Chicago last year, I had a chance to hear Seth Grahame-Smith, the author of the original novel, talk about the Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter film adaptation. Although he was still working on the script at the time, he was clearly passionate about the project and it’s nice to see how things have come together since then.
Now if only the adaptation for Grahame-Smith’s other book, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, could find some traction. David O. Russell was originally slated to direct, but quit over budget issues. Then School of Rock writer Mike White was given the job, but ultimately he also left the project. Currently, Fright Night director Craig Gillespie is the lead candidate to direct the film, but who knows whether that will pan out or not…
We often lament the lack of truly original films here at Screen Rant, and both Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter and Pride and Prejudice and Zombies seem to fit that bill. Luckily, it looks like one of them will actually get made – and with a quality cast to boot.
As more information comes out about both movies, we’ll have the details here at Screen Rant.
