What if you could go back in time and relive any moment in your life, in order to get it right? That's the mind-boggling ability that 21-year old Tim (Domhnall Gleeson) discovers he possesses - thanks to a genetic trait passed down by the men on his father's (Bill Nighy) side - in the new British romantic comedy, About Time.

About Time is the new film creation of Oscar-nominated screenwriter and director Richard Curtis, who previously scripted British comedy fare like Four Weddings and a Funeral and Bridget Jones's Diary; that is, before he turned to directing his own screenplays, on Love Actually and Pirate Radio. Meanwhile, Gleeson is an up and comer actor, having followed his small roles in the Harry Potter films and Dredd by playing the Leo Tolstoy persona, Levin, in Joe Wright's Anna Karenina adaptation last year.

Rachel McAdams (Midnight in Paris) is returning to the sci-fi/romance sub-genre by playing Gleeson's love interest in About Time, which looks to be a far cry from The Time Traveler's Wife film adaptation (also starring McAdams). The supporting cast for Curtis' movie is rounded out by Tom Hollander (Hanna) and Lindsay Duncan (Alice in Wonderland), alongside lesser-knowns Lee Asquith-Coe (Fast & Furious 6) and Margot Robbie (The Wolf of Wall Street).

The About Time international trailer does an overall solid job, when it comes to the dual tasks of outlining the (admittedly, predictable) trajectory of the story - which involves young Tim learning the hard way that not every mistake he makes can (or, rather, should) be corrected by time-travel - and showcasing the mix of clever situational comedy and heartfelt schmaltz that is the writer/director's calling card.

Basically, if you're a fan of Curtis' work in general (truth be told, I am), then About Time seems like it should be worth a look; at the least, it'll be a safe choice for date night.

About Time begins a limited release in U.S. theaters on November 1st, 2013, followed by a wider release on November 8th. Those who live in the UK get to see the movie two months earlier, when it opens on September 6th.
