Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper's A Star is Born is moving up its theatrical release to May 18, 2018. The musical/drama film from Warner Bros. Pictures was originally slated to be released September 28, 2018. It was written by Will Fetters, Cooper, Eric Roth, Irene Mecchi, Stephen J. Rivele and Christopher Wilkinson and also stars Sam Elliott, Andrew Dice Clay and Dave Chappelle.

The film marks Gaga's first major role in a feature film following minor appearances in Machete Kills and Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, as well as her roles as the Countess in the fifth season of Ryan Murphy's horror anthology series American Horror Story: Hotel and as the ancient wood spirit Scathach in the sixth season, Roanoke. In addition to releasing her latest album Joanne and touring, Gaga only just released her documentary Gaga: Five Foot Two on Netflix. Said documentary follows the life of the super star, stripped down during her most vulnerable and joyful moments over the past year.

As confirmed by Variety, Warner Bros. has decided to push up the release date for A Star is Born because they see the film as a strong counter-programming move among the summer tentpole releases - including, Avengers: Infinity War, the untitled Han Solo anthology film and the Slender Man movie. While A Star is Born is going to have some stiff competition at the box office, it will also be a far cry from either the Star Wars franchise or the Marvel Cinematic Universe, meaning that these movies won't be directly competing for attention from the same target demographics.

Lady Gaga joins A Star is Born

In the film, Gaga (who will be credited as Stefani Germanotta, her birth name) will be playing Ally, a talented unknown hopefull trying to break into the music business, who meets and falls in love with Jackson Maine (Cooper), a country music star. As Ally's career eclipses Jackson's, he must come to terms that his career is coming to an end, putting a strain on the pair's budding romance. The film will feature original music written and composed by Gaga.

This is not the first time the story of A Star is Born has been bought to life on the big screen. The original film was released in 1937 (starring Janet Gaynor and Fredric March), then was remade in 1954 (starring Judy Garland and James Mason) and remade again in 1976 (starring Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson). Gaga and Cooper will be the fourth pair to bring the story to life - and, based on what we have heard so far about Gaga's commitment to the project, it may well prove to be a memorable remake too.
