The first official teaser trailer for the remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street made its way online early this morning/late last night and we have it here for you, courtesy of MySpace.

The remake stars Jackie Earle Haley as the notorious Freddy Krueger, taking over for Robert Englund who made the character famous in the original Nightmare on Elm Street movies.

Check out the trailer after the jump.

Here’s the teaser:

Wow. Looks pretty good to me. I think this movie will be big when it comes out.

From way back in March, we reported on details of the new script, outlining some of the changes we’d be seeing from the remake compared to the original series of films. The remake would take a more serious tone and feature less of the comedic parody-like dialogue from Freddy.

After being burned alive by a mob of angry parents, a pre-school gardener/caretaker named Freddy returns for revenge against the children, now 18 years old, that accused him of sexual abuse. But was Freddy a child molester or was he falsely accused? This is the central question and main addition to the film’s plot. Freddy doesn’t have many lines, but that isn’t all that surprising considering that the film’s producers have said the character doesn’t joke around.

Read that makes you wonder whether or not he’s truely pure evil or if he’s seeking vengeance against those who committed evil upon him.

Starring alongside Jackie Earle Haley and playing his likely victims are Rooney Mara, Kyle Gallner, Katie Cassidy, Thomas Dekker, Kellan Lutz, Clancy Brown and Connie Britton.

What did you think of the teaser?

Directed by Samuel Bayer, A Nightmare on Elm Street opens April 30, 2010.

  1. hmmmz…in my opinion Freddy used to be a somewhat funny guy, ive had many laughs watching and hearing him talk, and his voice in this movie? it sucks, like his face, it just isnt Freddy!
So i think this will just be another 13 in a dozen slasher movie.

  2. His face looked a little too cgi at the end there but besides that it looked awesome in my opinion. Another thing is that i could already see people on here complaining about this movie as soon as they see that michael bay name in there. Eventhough its a different take on my most favorite and scariest villain ever (imo) i’m still going to definately see this whenever it comes out. Also just a side note… Just because he’s not joking around it doesn’t mean its not funny.

  3. Color me disappointed… That just crushed any interest I had in this film.

    @b

Sure, as the sequel progressed Freddy became more of a comic relief, but if you take a look at the book end entries (Nightmare 1 & New Nightmare) you’ll see that Freddy still has the ability to be terrifying.

There was nothing that was remotely scary. Freddy has become some creepy homeless guy who’s razzling kids with this Lord Voldemort-like face.

Just have Harry Potter throw some “expelliarmus” at him and we can go home.

  4. some of the scene are taken directly out of the first film (girl floating above bed, claw coming out of bath tub, the scene with the steam pipes(from the end of the second one))
just hope it isnt as screwed as friday the 13th.
it looks as if freddy as a human is a wimpy kind of guy, might be the look they set out to make with him for the “is he innocent or not” theme of the movie.

major fan of the olden day slashers so its a guarantee viewing for me :D

  5. @ Anthony :

Yeah, youre right, Freddy was terrifying, and later he became a somewhat cynical funny guy, but that is/was what i liked so much about him, scary as hell, but sometimes funny with catchy lines.
In this movie his face looks like a fish, and his voice!, so not scary at all.

@ Jago : i guess Freddy is almost every one’s favorite horror villain, but this movie is gonna crush that, because of the way he looks and talks..

This movie is gonna do what none of those kids managed :
    Kill Freddy for good!!

  6. @b
He’s not my favorite “horror” villain… He’s my favorite villain period…lol. Yes this version is surely not going to be my favorite one but its the only freddy movie thats coming out ( waffle house effect i think is what someone in here called it) so its a must see for old school slasher fans. The only nightmares i ever had were because of the movie ” orca” ( don’t ask why) and the nightmare on elm street series. Till this day if and when i have a nightmare the end of it is always the same : i’m in his basement where i’m seeing all the gloves and tools and whatnot, then i start to heAr him as a figure emerges from the dark but i never fully see it cause i wake up right there. Whats crazy is that by that point of the dream i know its a dream and i’m trying really hard to move my body to fall off the bed so i could awake. Either way i’ll be heading for this instead of saw 7…

  7. @ Jago :

Why did you have nightmares about Orca? ;-)

  8. I’m still traumatize with Freddy so I know this will scare the crap outta me..

  9. Except for Freddys face, and voice to a lesser degree, I thought it looked good. A lot of nods to the original in there. Tentatively optimistic.

  10. what? freddy is not suposed to look like a real burn victim!

jk lol! you people are so stupid ! have you ever seen a burn victim? because thats what freddy looks like. and what he should have looked like in the first 7 movies. you are just mad because he is not exactly like robert englund

  11. Well of course we are all “stupid” when compared to “the smart one.”

Oh forgot this: “Please turn on sarcasm detector.”

  12. The face is okay, but Freddy is suppose to be a freaking sadistic sarcastic guy.

  13. I’ll give it a chance….then I’ll judge it ….AFTER I watch it. :)

  14. @the smart one

Since we’re following the whole “real” angle, I’m glad that they’re portraying the “real” man that kills children in their dreams correctly.

You know, because everything in this film, sorry… documentary, is based in reality.

The face is a joke, the voice is more so and the only thing scary about this film is that they’re going to make more of them.

  15. Jago, “Orca” got me too for some reason.
This though? Well, I just can’t tell. The voice isn’t scary to be honest, we didn’t see enough of the face to properly judge it, but the atmosphere was right. It felt like a Freddy film but is that a good thing?
If you’re gonna do a reboot/revision then shouldn’t it be in a different direction? This feels/looks like it should be a proper sequel instead. Which I actually think they should’ve done.
However, J.E.H. is perfect casting, they just need to do something with the voice.

  16. I REALLY don’t like the fact that they’re bringing into question Krueger’s guilt. One of the points of the character is that he is and always was a sadistic bast*rd that… targetted kids. To bring in the fact that he might have been innocent all along is a flat out MISTAKE in my eyes.

The trailer left me quite cold to be honest, although I’m liking the casting of Haley as Krueger. I was completely opposed to this remake, especially when I first heard they were recasting Robert Englund (for Jason Voorhees and Michael Myers, you can change actors – it’s just, after all, a man behind a mask for each. But with Krueger it’s MORE than that). But my interest was grabbed when they put in place the BRILLIANT casting of Haley.

I’ll see it for sure, but I’m no expecting all that much.

    @Anthony,

Is that a cartoon version of you as you avatar? If it is, I think we may look alike :)

  17. So Jackie Earle Haleyplays a child molestor again, except this time instead of castrating himself at the end he gets burned and invades people’s dreams, lol.

Sorry, I was forced to watch this retarded movie called Little Children where he played a child molestor.

  18. Guys,

It’s a remake taken in a different direction.

All of the comments looking down on this trailer are expecting a complete scene-by-scene enactment of the original, it seems – that’s not what this is.

Looking at this trailer for what is is, I’m pretty excited to see it which says a lot because I’m not big into this genre of films despire my liking of the Englund’s comedic Freddy from when I was young.

Jackie Earle Haley is the man and I think we should give the film a chance, no?

  19. As another poster said before

In the original I do not believe Freddy was a comedic character. He was ruthless and pure evil. I remember being scared out of my pants and a “funny” bad guy wouldn’t have done it. See NOES 2-4 as examples.

  20. @steve brown & b
I always feared most things from the ocean and everytime i use to go to coney island by train… at the station from some of the cracks on the walls you could see into the aquarium that was right there. Also the floor at the train station looked like it was that wood they use on the docks… so after seeing orca i always feared that the woods would break and underneath was that whale waiting for me. Funny thing is that underneath the wooden floor was the street but in my dreams it was the ocean.

    @Rob
I’m all for different takes/versions of movies and/or characters i just don’t like how he looked in that scene but maybe the cgi or whatever isn’t complete. That whole making him look innocent does kinda suck a bit but we could always look at the older ones if we want to as well.

To those who say he wasn’t a comedic character… to me he was more 50/50. As in while he was in the movie i was laughing throughout the whole movie… come time to sleep was a whole different movie. With this new one I’ll probably have a new batch of dreams…”IN HD!!!”…lol, that’ll help me sleep.

  21. @ROB totaly agree jackie earl haley is a great actor im in just bc he is freddy.

  22. I thought that the first one was okay back in the day, but having the joking freddy was a bit much for me to take the movie very seriously. I want to be SCARED.

I’m glad that they are scaling back the “comedy” so that it can be a true horror movie now.

I like that Gallner kid. He’s pretty good in everything I have seen him in so far. He’s an up and comer.

  23. F-ing sweet LOVE FREDDY

  24. The footage at Comic-Con looked good to me, and yeah this looks like a less “jokey” version – but we’ll see. I also agree the voice at the end seemed a little… off, but I’ll withhold judgment on this for now.

    Vic

  25. bring it

  26. sweetnesssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss

  27. @Ken J,

Little Children is a FANTASTIC movie: Brilliantly acted, written and directed with a handle of tone rarely matched in a movie of its type from the last decade or so.

I never actually thought about the fact that Haley’s playing a child molester again here as we he was in LC (although in the latter, he “exposed” himself and didn’t molest, if you want to get technical. That was one of the points of the film). Still doesn’t bother me, as here he’s portraying much MORE than that (it’s an iconic character, for one).

  28. Looks good, just not too sure about the make up, maybe it was the angle they showed it from. good job SR as I thought Myspace was the onyl one to ahve this trailer.

  29. I just got the chance to view the trailer, actually, I never knew that there was going to be a remade version. Anywho, I am a very big fan of the horror genre, and I am an extremely hard critic to impress . I don’t really know if this will be one of the movies I’ll pay to see in 2010. However if I decide to, I better be damn well impressed. If there’s one thing that I can’t stand,as well as other movie goers. It’s wasting money on a corny film. I did this once with The Village, and i’m still made til this day about it.I’ll keep my fingers crossed.
