Personally, I think it’s pretty simple: The bloom is off the rose with this show. Sure, people still watch it for the excitement of the competition, but once it’s over, it’s over.

It would be interesting to compare this to the trend of American Idol winners from subsequent seasons in other countries…

The problem is, we rarely hear about any of the winners from other countries over here, except during American Idol shows. They don’t make the news, they don’t get any radio play, they don’t get much exposure of any kind. It seems to be limited primarily to the chosen geographic region. Intentional, perhaps?

I don’t think it’s intentional. We (the US) saturate world culture much more than world culture affects us.

Well, now, that entirely depends. For example, the guy who won Australian Idol was a fat, ugly, moppy-haired guy. He’s a good singer, no doubt about it, but who would you rather look at — him or Kylie Minogue?
