SR Oscars 2012 Live Chat

1 year ago by Anthony Ocasio

oscars 2012 live chat SR Oscars 2012 Live Chat

Tonight, the who’s who of Hollywood are gathered at the illustrious Kodak Theatre for the 84th Academy Awards.

With Martin Scorsese’s Hugo and Michel Hazanavicius’ The Artist leading the way with the most Oscar nominations for 2012, this year’s Oscars could very well become a battle of theatrical homages. That being said, Hugo and The Artist are going to have to overcome the competition that Tate Taylor’s The Help has been bringing to this year’s award shows.

Of course, no matter who takes home the coveted Oscar this year, all eyes are on Billy Crystal as he makes his long-awaited return as host of Hollywood’s most prestigious awards show.

Screen Rant will be here live to discuss the 84th Academy Awards as they happen and we’re inviting you to chat with us at 8:00pm EST.

The movie show of the year! My vote is for Hugo!

Drive should have been in the mix for best picture!

Rooney Mara should get best actress, she was mesmerizing !

Mara backstabbed everyone who gave her parts from nightmare to NY law and order … It would have been an outrage to let her win. It doesn’t matter how awful and stupid your first parts are, even the biggest stars have some very poor movies on their resume, especially in the beginning of their career. But mara seems to think she’s so great that she should never have graced those production from her presence .Assuming she’s half as smart as she seems to think she is she’s quite a moron to act this way: has she never heard the proverb “Don’t bite the hand that feed you”? She comes as a spoiled obnoxious brat in several interviews. She managed to top lebaouf and megan fox which is quite a feat.

Micheal Shannon should be best actor for Take Shelter. He was awesome! Can’t wait to hear him say, “Son of Jor-el; kneel before Zod!”

Hugo is doing well so far. But can it beat The Artist?
I’m rooting for Hugo & Midnight In Paris.

This is sad, so sad. Another artsy, avantgardist flick wins best picture while the “blockbusters” (in this case “Hugo”) have to live with a couple of technical awards…As expected. With these eejits giviing the best picture award to mediocre niche stuff like “Slumdog Millionaire”, “Million Dollar Baby” or “Hurt Locker”, what would one expect? There once was a time, the biggest movie of the year got the Oscar…”Ben Hur”, “Gone With the Wind”, “Lord of the Rings”, “Braveheart”, “Titanic”…But obviously, the Academy has turned into a freak show for alternative movie making…

If you want the biggest movie to win, you get the Grammys- commercial lowbrow nonsense. The Oscars are an award for quality, and I for one hope they stay that way. They don’t always get it right- Slumdog Millionaire was a dog- but generally, they are my guide for good movies to watch. If I want to watch the most commercially successful movies, that’s easy- I just look at box office receipt tables.

Hugo isn’t by any means a blockbuster. It made far less than expected. But I loved hugo and it deserved best picture. As viola davis deserved best actress in my opinion.

Such is the competition that no matter the verdict half the audience always seems displeased…. If they pick a blockbuster they’re selling out, if they pick an unconventional movie they’re snob…If they nominate everyone that has been forecasted they’re conventional and boring, if they let one slip they’re unfair…if they take a brat or a foreign unknown they’re trying to get some buzz ,an old fart they’re accused of cronyism. Every year people say the show has lost all legitimacy that they will stop watching it…and yet every year people turn on their tv and watch the show. Oscars are to gather all kind of cinema while keeping some standard of quality and I think they make a pretty good job.
