’5nal Destination’ Opening Disaster Revealed?

Jun 30, 2010 by

Final Destination 5 5nal Destination

Following on the heels of the clever, albeit misleading, titling of the fourth Final Destination film, The Final Destination, New Line Cinema has revealed the title for Final Destination 55nal Destination.

The Final Destination was thought to be the final film in the franchise (until it grossed nearly $185 million on $40 million budget) – paving the way for 5nal Destination.

In addition to the updated title, Bloody Disgusting also has information regarding the opening ‘disaster’ scene in 5nal Destination.

“We’ve got confirmation that the opening disaster involves a suspension bridge collapsing.”

While we still have to wait for official confirmation, a collapsing suspension bridge seems like a plausible set-piece out of the Final Destination playbook which, so far, includes an airplane explosion, multi-car highway pileup, derailed roller coaster, and epic speedway accident.

5nal Destination was written by Eric Heisserer who penned the recent Nightmare on Elm Street remake, as well as the upcoming The Thing prequel. Heisserer has previously discussed the direction he intends to take 5nal Destination, with a focus on “going to go back to what made the original work and build from there… creating a good suspense horror movie that happens to be a Final Destination movie.”

5nal Destination Disaster

Despite lackluster responses to Heisserer’s attempt with Nightmare on Elm Street, Final Destination fans still have a few things to keep them hopeful – most notably the addition of longtime James Cameron protege, Steven Quale, sitting in the director’s chair. Quale has worked on a number of films including Terminator 2: Judgement Day, Titanic, and Avatar - though, 5nal Destination will represent his first time directing a feature-length picture.

Quale isn’t the most obvious choice for the 5nal Destination director’s chair but, given that the fifth film will again use 3D cameras, he may not be as out of left field as you might think. Certainly anyone within Cameron’s sphere, especially someone with Avatar experience, is a valuable commodity for any film that wants to use 3D. That said, The Final Destination, compared to Avatar, represents the polar opposite, in terms of 3D effects, from what made Cameron’s film such a success. Final Destination 3D is gimmicky and in your face, where as Cameron sold us all on 3D with subtlety.

5nal Destination Steven Quale

Considering 5nal Destination, was green-lit because of  New Line’s “inability to resist” (and subsequent interest in making money) instead of actually having a good reason to continue the franchise, it’s easy to imagine that Quale, will be asked to ditch subtlety, and just lob decapitated heads out of the screen.

Shooting is scheduled for September, so we’ve still got awhile before we’ll know whether Quale and Heisserer are able foresee any impending box-office disaster – and adjust accordingly. Though, no matter what they do, we all know death is going to catch up with the Final Destination franchise eventually – maybe on F9al Destination.

Will you go see 5nal Destination? What do you think of the suspension bridge disaster scene idea?

5nal Destination has a tentative release date of August 26, 2011

  1. reading that the previous one made nearly $500 million isn’t as shocking -to me- as to find out it had a $115 million budget. insane.

  2. I will definitely go see it. I don’t give a damn about the story, I just go for the death scenes. I think the ’5nal’ thing is kinda stupid tho. And suspension bridge? Should be awesome!

    • I agree with ya. I go for the same reasons, for death scenes, lol. If it were me, id title it just Final Destination 5 over the title they got planned even if its supposed to be the last. Suspension bridge sequence, could possibly work, Highway sequence worked for the 2nd film so who knows till we see it. So far i enjoyed all 4 films so most likely i wont miss this.

  3. Looks like FIVEnal Destination. I usually HATE it when a number replaces a letter. The exceptions are NUMB3RS and S1M0NE, as the replacement numbers resemble their corresponding letters. Thir13n Ghosts doesn’t even have the right number of letters in it. I love Se7en, but my mind always wants to read it as SeSevenen.

    • If this makes cash, you’ll just hate it when Final DeSIXation is announced, won’t cha?

      :)

  4. The title is terrible, so stupid. I mean there is absolutely no creativity in it. My title for it would be something like, “The Final Destination: A New Beginning” and start over, with a new theme.

    • I know that is a good title for the new Final Destination Movie. My Title I thought for the fifth sequel is Final Destination: The End Is Just The Beginning instead of 5nal Destination. I would go to see the movie, i just like the death scenes and the opening disaster xD

    • No final destination film has had no extra title words. It’s always “final destination” plus a number.

ie Final Destination, Final Destination 2, FinalDestination 3, The Final Destination. Anything except Final Destination 5, The 5nal Destination, 5nal Destination, or something of that nature would be atrociously stupid.

  5. the previous film- in theaters iinternationally and domestically- did not even break $200 Mil; it was somewhere around $180 mill. The budjet was NOT $115 mill but rather $40 Mill. One way or the other, it was still very profitable which in hollywood warrants an automatic sequel

    • Sorry for the confusion, I had originally included the total revenues/budgets for the franchise as a whole = $500 million/$115 million.

You are right about the totals for The Final Destination $185 million/$40 million. I’ve updated accordingly – thanks for the catch.

  6. 4 sucked s much, every single death scene was over elabrant, unsuspencefull, and give people only blood, no shock or wonder. but with the Cameron Protege, i’m gonna give this franchise one more chance. heres hoping.

and FYI a suspention bridge can not colapse if the wires break, all those bridges have 3X the wire needed for the weight of the cars and such. so they would have to do a boat collision or engineer error (Tocoma Narrows) for this to be plausible like the plane crash from 1 or car crash from 2.

(and am i the only one whole thinks the new title looks like “Anal Destination”?)

    • or, maybe they’ll do a Harry Potter 6 cross-over, and have the deatheaters fly around it causing it to collapse, haha. And I agree, it does look like “Anal Destination”.

  7. The Final Destnation :Your Wallet.

    • I like that :-)

  8. gotta second that disapproval of the title… “Fivenal Destination”? that’s just… stupid.

    That said!

I am SO seeing this movie.
    I LOVE trashy disaster/horror flicks.
As long as it isn’t in 3-D .

  9. Please just let it die. LOL (see that irony?)
    Seriously, enough is enough.

  10. i suggest the title would be Final De5tination for the sake of the franchise

  11. or For The Final Destination thats sounds good

  12. i just watched the last one the other night. and i was really disappointed. way to much obvious CG and i’m sure a lot of that had to do with the fact that it was 3d, but it was awful. there was no shock value like the first two films (3rd didn’t do much for me either) and the acting was horrible. i’m pretty tired of the teeney-bopper crowd that’s acting these days.

  13. ‘FINAL DE5TINATION’… many ppl agree 4 dat title..it’s more clever than ’5nal destination’, and i dnt really get how ppl say it loox like ‘anal destination’?? i liked all the ‘f.d.’ movies, and the opening scene wit da bridge has 2 b EPIC when seen in 3d!!! cant w8 til its released (which by da way is in aug. 26 2011)

  14. i think they should just do a boat explosion or something. not a bridge collapse. i mean, thats retarded. i think if they did a boat collison like a motor of a speed boat just flies off and it hits some dude in the stomach and it spins and kills him. that would be SWEET

  15. I’m not liking the opening, but lets see. Like I’ve said in another site, they should just open up with a film crew making Final Destination 5 and it all blows up in their faces. I seriously hate that title, It looks childish and just plain silly. @ nowheredan, I agree, it does look like “Anal Destination” and 4 was just horrible in every possible way.

  16. Lol Danny, good one hahaha!!! Well I hated the fourth so much I have no interest in this one….

  17. the first 3 films were great. but by the 4th one I was really getting bored of the whole: “someone predicts everyone dying. a group of people leave. then they all eventually die”
I really hope in the 5th one they will divulge deeper into stuff like why there getting premonitions. and stuff like that. and also stuff like (i cant remember if it was the second or third one but) there was this guy who was “supposed to be dead” and he saved the life of a boy. and so the boy was now “supposed to be dead” chain reaction things like that.

  18. the movie needs somthing new well how about the person on the bridge has a preminition ( that person will be a girl) znd she tries to warn every1 that there going to die she gets escorted off the brigde and she gets no1 to believe her so every1 dies exept her, so its just her and she finds other ppl who hav had preminitions and thers a big conection with them, like theres 4 of them and the girl and they all hav conections from the other main charactors from final destination 1 2 3 and 4 and the girl is starting a whole new wave of terror so they try to stop it but on the way the ppl the girl is close to are killed by death including the other 4 vision ppl. and i do like final de5tination.

  19. I liked the Final Destination too. I think the 2nd film was my favorite though outta all of them. But i like all of them because all had good death scenes in them and thats what liked about them. Its not like there’s a killer in the franchise so im surprised of how many ways people could die from. I guess you just have to look around your surroundings real hard to come up with ideas.

  20. I like, JonahJay’s idea, it’s more original than what they have been putting out theses days, the Opening for “5nal Destination” just sounds generic, they should go more like a night club, or concert, some where, where teens actually are????? Here’s a cool concept, a police officer is investigating these paranormal anomalies, and looking for a reason behind these deaths, he has been following them since his partner died ” police officer from FD2″, coming to terms with his partners death, he is about to give up but he has a vision about a night club that burns down with with people trapped in side.. Meanwhile a girl has the same premonition but she is in the club and is about to meet her death when she saves the whole club from coming down saving everyone inside, in some way her and the police officer have a connection and try to come together and save her friends who are on a beach resort, just off the coast of there town. There in a race against time to save her friends from the final destination……

  21. Oh, and more death in casual places, like in the previous films, a basketball court, would cool you know somewhere where young adults are??? And for sum strange reason I like the thought of a metal amp, taking half of somebodies head off……

    • thanks londen media for that, i like making comics and i drew like a 15 page front and back of final destination 5 like a week after i sall the 4th one, i made the desaster about a cruse ship, so that wouldve been cool for them to make, but they decided on the bridge, a bridge wouldnt be my favorite pick cuz its involving cars AGAIN but i know it will be awsome. But after i read this article the idea for the the girl and the other 4 ppl jus came to me lol, i would lov for the other producers to atleast consider my idea.

  22. My dad and I have loved the series since the first movie, and we have seen every one of them together. While we were both let down by the 4th instalment, my dad totally noticed something that puzzles us both.

Does everyone remember how the main guy in the 4th movie saved his girlfriend and other friend in the movie theatre? Well… he saved a whole hell of a lot of other people… why isn’t the 5 instalment just centered around a few of those people who were saved. I mean, none of them had a premonition about it, so there will be no main character, so we will have no idea who will live til the end. It will be more of a shock, and a group thing. I credit my father with all of this lol.

  23. @LondonMedia: That would be a great idea, except the officer you’re referring to (Officer Thomas Burke) never died in FD2. He, Kimberly (the main protagonist of the movie), and the pregnant woman – Isabella, all survived in FD2. It would be great if they brought those 3, along with a few of the survivors from the theater accident of the last movie, back into this film.

P.S. I also agree that “Final De5tination” would be a better title than “5nal Destination”. I think they’re doing something similar with “Scream 4″ – making it “SCRE4M” on the movie poster. lol

  24. No, Thomas and Kimberley died. It tells you on the (lousy) choose their fate version of FD3! They should bring back Tony Todd! He knew a lot of stuff he should get his ass back on there and explain a few things. I also agree that Final De5tination is a much better title and I like the idea of people having premonitions being connected but I think there should be 2 opening disasters and tha’s how the story begins to explore possible connections. Like maybe the protaganist from one disaster has premonitions about the other group of people and vice versa.

  25. this is for any1 who wants information, theres 2 cast members that had been anounced theres Arlen Escarpeta, Miles Fisher. im happy wit the cast so far and the movie shoots this fall, and thanks john for the compliment

  26. I agree that 5nal Destination, looks kinda weird. Final De5tination looks pretty cool though. For school I wrote essays based on my own ideas of “final destination” stories, which are pretty cool.Infact, one of them was about a suspension bridge collasping. Im thinking of making movies of them to put on youtube. Anyways, the supspension bridge idea is good, but I kinda wanna see more than cars crashing and a bridge collapsing. Maybe with some trucks hauling oil, or propane exploding. Cause, cars really dont explode THAT often. I think that at the end ofthe movie right after the protagonist finally dies, it should show them back at the end revealing that the whole movie was an big premonition, so that way, it will be mysterious as to whether they live or not.

    • i meant after the protagonist dies, they should awake from a premonition back at the suspension bridge. Sorry for the typo.

      • I love the final destination series. I have been a fan since F.D.1. I thought the first 3 were brilliant….the 4th on the other hand. I don’t know what happened to them when they wrote this one. I was expecting much more out of a f.d. film. First of all, The 3-d seems to have been taking much of their time because the majority of the cg effects weren’t that great. The first 3 were way better. I didn’t feel like caring about the characters survival like i did before, i think its because there was no depth to them. We didn’t know much about them at all, they just started to die right away. We didn’t get much of a backstory as we did with the first 3. Whenever i watch an f.d. film, i get really into it. I tried really hard with part 4 but i just couldn’t. It was dumb that after the premonition that one girl died right there outside the race track. I liked it better with the first 3 how it took time before they started dying one by one. I really hated the route they took trying to make the movie more of a comic than a dark horror movie. That completely ruined the f.d. films. I am so happy that there is a 5th one coming out. I hope they can show that they can somehow save the series. I told myself right after i saw part 4, “oh geez, please let there be another one” I will always pay money to go see a final destination film, even if its like final desination 15 lol. Oh the deaths in part 4 aren’t great at all. I’m watching it right now, the only one that was kinda great like the previous films was the one with krista allen’s character (the mother) who died in the salon. There were so many moments where i was like “oh crap thats going to kill her! oh crap the scizzors r going to cut her!” I love that way that they keep you on the edge of your seat. Thats the only scene that did it for me, i was dissapointed with the rest. Oh and the ending? its dumb that they really all just died. This is a FINAL DESTINATION MOVIE!!!, you should always have the opened ending where your like, crap they haven’t escaped yet. ok i think i’ve rambled on enough for now lol. I could also argue how they messed up the order of the deaths in part 4, didn’t anyone else notice that? oh lol and the premonitions where total crap, they were better with the first 3 films. (P.S. I hope the person getting the premontions is a girl in this one, that totally rocks. I like devon sawa from part 1 but he has nothing on mary elizabeth winstead or a.j. cook). Please make the 5th one amazing. I hope they really look into what made the first one a success and do that again. As long as somehow Craig Perry, james wong and glen morgan are attached to this project, it will be great.

  27. i was kinda confused on the order they died in fd 4 too.i think that janet chick was what made it confusing. what confused you? for me it was when the whole thing about intervening and saving someone from dying NEXT. it kinda confused me in the other movies too. i dont know how many people you skip before dying, like in fd 3 it was 1. in fd 1 it was like, 1 too. and in fd 4 it was like, 2 or 3. can someone please explain it to me?

  28. Good News! 5nal Destination is offically FinalDestination 5. The new lead is now Nicholas D’Agosto, not mike fisher.D’agosto plays someone named Sam Lawton. Mike Fisher is still in the movie though. Look on wikipedia

    • That sound awesome. But wikipedia is one of the worst places to go for information, anyone has access to change information on that site. Ive looked up information on there before and it was all incorrect. But I’ve read an article from bloody-discusting.com that said Nicholas D’Agosto is going to be in the movie. I wonder if he’s going to be the one who has the visions? I’ve seen him in the episode of supernatural that he did, he was pretty good. I think he should be good in the movie.

      TONY TODD IS COMING BACK!!!!!!!!!!

i’m so excited about that, he is part of the f.d. franchise and i was so dissapointed when they didn’t have him in part 4. I’m glad that part 5 will be a dark movie like the first one and not comical like the 4th one.

ALSO STARING IN FINAL DESTINATION 5!!!!!!!!!

—Meghan Ory. (I love her character in the movie Decoys, i was hoping to see her in another big movie, she will be amazing in here.)

      —Ellen Wroe

      —Miles Fisher

—Arlen Escarpeta (From the remake of Friday the 13th)

—David Koechner (He has not confirmed whether he will accept the offer to be in this movie or not yet.)

Oh and i really do hope its true that its going to be Final Destination 5 and not 5nal Destination, thats just a dumb name.

  29. new news lol, we gotta leading lady ( Emma Bell) her most recent film is “FROZEN” and so far it looks to me that shes going to have the vision, i hope she does. Her name is Molly Harper in the movie ans there is some other new stuff to jus go to imdb or watever. PS: hope the title gets renamed to Final destination 5, or Final De5tination.
