Gordon-Levitt and Deschanel have real chemistry. The supporting characters are kind of cliche but thankfully we see little of them and a lot of Gordon-Levitt (Tom) and Deschanel (Summer). I found the movie surprisingly funny. It think it captures well a lot of those moments that one has in a relationship with real honesty. There's a fantasical element to some sequences akin to how Tom's own perceptions may exaggerate or emphasize certain moments as better or worse than perhaps they really were. The best is a split-screen sequence showing Tom's expectations vs his reality. It's a movie for anybody who's experienced a difficult breakup. Much better than your standard gimmicky romcom.
