Um, I care Daniel, because where I work it's customer service based... wait, every work place is... anyhow... it doesn't matter if it's justified or not, if someone decides to complain, it's our ass. Oh yah, I'll use the "they're just words" argument and see how that goes with the big brass. That will go well, thanks for your enlightened advice... I take it you are not currently employed or maybe you're lucky enough to be self-employed? lol

Ice Cube should take Small Change's (That would be 50 Cent) place. Cursing is like icing on a cake its good and serves its purpose of making the cake tastier, but too much will rot your teeth. I have know idea where I was going with that. WAKA WAKA.

Why do you care Ken ? They are just words it makes no sense for anyone to be offended or upset by them. They are simply words that an overly sensative society decided were "bad" because something needed to be condemned. They should be treated just like any other word. For me hearing F*ck or any other so called Curse word is no different than hearing the word Shoe.

Yah no kidding steven, but that's really for those kids who think cursing makes it cool, so they try to make it as "cool" as they can, lol.

Personally, I curse when it happens, but I control it and it's not a common thing in my vocabulary. I work with this guy, he seems like he can't even complete a sentence without cursing. And it's completely unneccessary, it's not like it helps to the description to things or anything, and it's like a little kid and his mother can be standing right there and he can't control himself for that 2 minutes while they are in earshot to keep the cursewords down. Or I have him on speakerphone because my hands are busy with other things (and you can tell when someone has you on speakerphone) and he doesn't think for one second that there might be other people there and to keep his language in check. Seriously, is it THAT hard to speak like a normal human being without cursing after every third word, I mean seriously, is it THAT important that you think somehow the story you're telling or the thing you are describing to someone will be inaccurate because you left out the precious curse words? I mean come on...

Personally it bugs me in movies with lots of carnage and horror that no one swears. Never feels right. Mind you, I swear like a sailor if I stub my toe. :)

But if really bugs me to have a movie that goes the other way.
Perfect example for me is Blade 3. They just seemed to cram any and every swear they possibly good, and after a while it just gets boring.

A bit of swearing in extreme situations makes sense to me. Swearing for the sake of swearing is just annoying.

Yah Daniel, the truly sad thing about this (that I wish they DON'T change BTW) is how curse words will raise the rating before violence will. So you can have a movie with people getting blown up, crushed, caught on fire, shot, and chopped up (without the gore of course, just thrown through something that obviously chopped and maybe playing the sound effect) and still be PG-13, but the second one of them says the f word or s word too many times, it's rated R.

I think it's weird, but like I said, I'd rather them cut the curse words than cut the violence for the rating, so I'm kind of glad that the rating system is ONLY picky about curse words, gore, and nudity while ignoring violence.

I care a little bit more about the curse words than you do, but we are in agreement that it's not the most important part of a film. I have enjoyed plenty of PG-13 films. It does bother me that they get left out, but I don't blame the studios. It is smart to leave them out because like you said it's more beneficial to the box office. I blame censorship that a few curse words can lower the raiting. Personally I don't see a thing wrong with them they are simply words. I understand ratings on gore or certain sexual things, but to be that strict about the use of words is sad.

I wouldn't say it is "natural" as if we're born with the instinct to use 4 letter words in the light of pain, it's a culturally learned thing and some people simply don't use it. I'm not arguing, like I said, that would be more realistic, but still not important enough to affect my opinion on a film if they cut it out for the benefit of the film's rating, thus box office take. I think it's a very small sacrifice. Very very small. I think those who get really bothered by this might still be a bit caught up in the "cool factor" of curse words. Something I grew out of about 10 years ago, lol. So I can care less. I DO care, however, if they cut something that's actually essential to the plot and integrity of the film in order to lower the rating. But frankly, in my opinion, 90% of the time, the curse words are simply not important enough for me to consider it essential to the plot of the film.

There are instances where the language thing sticks out as unnatural, but it's not very often. Most of the time I don't even notice it.

I agree with dudelove and Ken oddly enough they are both right in one way. Gore is not necessary gore is and always has been over exaggerated. In fact most wounds are never as bad as they look in movies. I have seen real life gun shot wounds as well as knife wounds and they never look as gory as film makes them seem. Gore is the most unnecessary thing in film to this day. However, when people get hurt or wounded they do tend to swear. It's fairly common. It's not about thinking of the coolest curse word you can use it's about your natural reaction to pain. Most people respond with an elegant "F*CK " or "Sh*t" it's just the nature of pain. I think this is less of a studio issue though and more of a censorship issue. The censors are uptight morons.

The problem with violence = gore and blood thing is that it's not always realistic.

I've seen gunshot wounds where you can't even tell the person has been shot except for a little bit of blood at the site of the broken skin. Then you see the gunshot wounds where there is blood everywhere. It really depends on what that bullet hits after it goes in. If it doesn't hit anything that bleeds like a major organ or an artery, it actually wouldn't really bleed. I've seen a guy shot 23 times, alive, conscious, and talking, and there's not much blood to be found. Well, he was a big guy (fat) so that could account for that, and a lucky guy, that none of the 9mm's hit anything vital. He bled a bit out of both his arms, but pressure bandages were enough to control that, so it wasn't much, but just about all of the body shots didn't really result in any bleeding.

And even if it does hit an artery or something else that causes bleeding, often times it's AFTER the shot, meaning you're not going to see a huge splash of blood as he's getting hit, you'll see a sort of "mist" then after that guy goes down, you see the blood rushing out. But movies tend to make it seem like everyone that gets shot is a mortal kombat character getting punched or something... I think it's silly in my opinion, and would actually rather them simply show a mist or some kind of reaction from the shot without all of the excessive blood and guts flying everywhere... About the cursing, true it'll be more realistic since people do curse in real life, but all I'm saying is that it doesn't bother me at all if they cut that out to lower the rating as long as no plot essential thing was cut out for that reason. Lower rating = bigger audience. It's a business afterall, might as well run a smart business.

That's what drives me nuts about PG-13 movies: all of the violence, none of the consequences (blood, agony, etc).

Wow, Ken J a racist??!! That's a new one on me. I'm a black guy and I've been joking around with him for months. :-)

Is Jim Kelly still around? You all remember him right? He was the black guy in Enter the Dragon. He's probably too old, though, if he's still around. Richard Roundtree would be good.

Kanye may be dumb, but his non musical activities can be very entertaining. Kanye West and Mike Myers should make a movie together with their amazing chemistry.
