3Below Season 2: Release Date & Story Details

3Below: Tales of Arcadia season 1 is now available to stream on Netflix, but will there be a season 2? The series is the second installment in Guillermo del Toro's Tales of Arcadia, a trilogy of animated series for Netflix from DreamWorks Animation Television that also includes Trollhunters as well as plans for a third series, Wizards.

Each series in Tales of Arcadia is set within the small town of Arcadia Oaks, exploring some of the strange occurrences which happen there. Trollhunters was about a teenage boy who becomes the first human Trollhunter, protecting both the town and the underground troll market, while 3Below follows the adventures of two royal aliens and their bodyguard who crash land in Arcadia. As they try to keep their true identities a secret from the humans of the town, they also must repair their ship. The technology on Earth isn't quite up to intergalactic standards, but that won't be too much of problem after they discover the other aliens hiding in Arcadia.

3Below Hasn't Been Renewed For Season 2 (Yet)

As of this writing, there has been no official confirmation of there being a 3Below season 2. However, season 1 certainly ends in such a way that 3Below can continue. Whether that's in a second season or through the other planned Tales of Arcadia series, Wizards (expected in 2019), remains to be seen. Though, assuming this series is at least as successful as Trollhunters, a 3Below season 2 is where it would make the most sense to explore the continuing adventures of Aja, Krel, and Varvatos.

When 3Below Season 2 Could Release?

With no official announcement, guessing when a 3Below season 2 could air is just that - guessing. But by looking at how the three seasons of Trollhunters were released on Netflix, we have some idea of when a 3Below season 2 might release. Trollhunters season 1 had 26 episodes, so its second season released the following year. Trollhunters season 2, however, was only 13 episodes, so season 3 (which was also 13 episodes) came out just five months later. This implies that 3Below (and its season 1 of also 13 episodes) could see season 2 releasing in May or June of 2019.

What Will 3Below Season 2's Story Be?

The ending of 3Below season 1 certainly leaves off in such a way that a continuation seems very likely. With the attack Morando sent to Earth thwarted, but without an operational spaceship, Aja and Krel will (for the time being) remain in Arcadia. They were able to send a message back to Akiridian-5, so the planet's resistance fighters now know that their true rulers are alive and well. That's sure to help bolster their ranks because after this defeat, Morando won't be relinquishing control of Akiridian-5 anytime soon.

The final episodes of 3Below also saw Lieutenant Zadra arrive on Earth, having suspected Varvatos Vex of being a traitor. Thankfully, Varvatos proved he was still loyal to the Tarron family, but with him winding up kidnapped by bounty hunters, Aja and Krel will be happy to have Zadra's assistance. Rescuing Varvatos is sure to be priority next season, but otherwise, 3Below season 2 will likely follow Aja and Krel as they continue to experience life on Earth. Aja and Steve's relationship, for instance, will likely continue to develop, and Krel may make some friends of his own after "leaving his mark" with that performance at the Battle of the Bands.

In the bigger picture, Morando now knows exactly where Aja and Krel are, threatening that he will come to Earth himself to finally end the Tarron line. Whether season 2 would see him arrive or if that level of conflict is held for a season 3 or even Wizards remains to be seen. But given that he's an angry evil dictator with access to ships capable of traveling across the universe, it's possible Morando could come to arrive on Earth before Aja and Krel would even know he's on his way.
