300 Trailer = Testosterone Injection

Dec 7, 2006 by

I feel like outside of a very narrow fanboy / comic book geek zone that the upcoming movie 300 has been flying under the radar. From what I’ve seen so far, every guy on the planet needs to know about this film. As a matter of fact I was stunned to discover this is the first I’ve posted about this film!

Now to tell you the truth, outside of the trailer, I don’t know much about this. It’s based on a Frank Miller story, Miller being the guy who redefined Batman with his Dark Knight rendition of Bats… a gritty, nastier, more “real” incarnation of Batman than we’d seen before.

Well there’s a new trailer out (thanks to SuperHeroHype for the heads up) that makes Braveheart look like a kindergarten story. I can picture Tim Allen back in his Home Improvement TV show days narrating this thing with a bunch of gutteral noises…

If you see an image below, click on it to start the trailer, otherwise just hit the “Play” button:

If you’re a guy and that doesn’t get your juices flowing, then you have issues that are beyond the scope of this website to handle. :-) 300 opens March 9th, 2007.

If you want to see the trailer in other formats, or learn more about the film go to the page at Yahoo! Movies.

  1. That movie looks very cool… very unique visual style. I can see the Frank Miller influence. It’s probably not in any danger of winning an Oscar (except maybe set design or something similar), but it should provide a couple of hours of senselessly violent entertainment. Works for me…

  2. I’ll admit the effects looked well done, but the concept and execution seem too incongruous and jumbled. I mean, it looks like they decided to take elements from half a dozen different war/fantasy movies, (Saruman has been breeding Orcs with Persians!) and threw them together with some photographic style pointers taken from perfume ads and “Sky Captain”.

Was the trailer visually stimulating? Yes. But so are strobe lights.

I could be wrong about this, because this is only the trailer, but it isn’t giving me any reasons to go see it.

  3. Jersey,

You crack me up. Sure you make some valid points, but I’m not expecting Citizen Kane. I was referring to the emotional impact of the trailer, which was very effective, and I think the movie itself will be very entertaining as well.

  4. It is a very “Guy” movie, there is not a very large outlet naturaly for the types of feelings that this movie, even just the trailer breings to the surface. I am so ready, this is going to rock!!!!

  5. Yeah, it’s just around the corner. Definitely going to check it out and sit there feeling like a wuss while comparing myself to them. ;-)
