Heck, I remember a lot of DBZ being comical: Gokuh’s eating habits, Chi Chi’s insistence on Gohan’s education over fighting, Krillin, Master Roshi. I’m going to hold judgement until I see it.

Dragonball was more of a comedy. It wasn;t until DBZ came about that it started to focus more on the fighting, thereby taking a more serious note.

This tears my heart out. I watched just about every episode of Dragonball and Dragonball Z when I was younger.

This movie seems more like a comedy than anything else.

i used to watch this show as a kid, both dragon ball and DBZ. while as a kid it was cool mostly because of violent fighting (i watched the uncensored version on Mexican television, nudity slight cursing and blood or gore is more acceptable) and cheeky depiction of women. But re watching it, it doesn’t hold up too well, it’s cheesy and there’s way too much pointless (endless) talking and power ups.

I saw about the first 40-50 minutes of the movie and while I will say it’s not great, It’s not unwatchable. I felt like I saw a very long episode of smallville. And I realized this movie (dialog, comedy, and action) was geared toward kids, even maybe a freshmen in high school, but no older. Thinking back I might have liked it if I had seen this at age 6-13. I won’t fully judge it until I see the whole thing.

Idk I can understand how diehard fans might not like it, fox did change so much of source material. But I just don’t get being upset (so I’ve read in other sites) by little things like goku not being asian (he’s an alien not asian) or it not being an adult matrix type movie(original cartoon at lest in America was more kid friendly, so its not surprising they would market to kids not adults).

Is the only reason you didn’t like it because of the changes? Or where there other factors.
I’m just trying to gauge whether people unfamiliar with the animé or manga will enjoy it as a fun action pic.

i have seen the movie already…and it was very dissapointing i must say…it was overall decent, but i mean they changed so very very key things in the story that just made it make no sense what so ever. i really hope they dont try to make a 2nd movie of this bringing out some of the DBZ people.

Semantics.
I know that Dragonball is suppose to be pre-DBZ.
And i KNOW what Dragonball is SUPPOSED to be about.
My point was I know what it should be but I am flexible enough to (hopefully) enjoy it for what it is.

I think you may need to re-watch some episodes, Before DBZ there was quite a bit of comedy in the fight scenes. It wasn’t until DBZ began that the fighting begin to take more precedence over the comedy aspects of the show.

It’s a Dragonball movie, as in pre-Dragonball Z, so the source material is suppose to feature Goku (as a child) exploring the world with Bulma.

I actually adore the television show and it’s manga roots. Dragonball has alots of comedy, but not during the fights.

This movie was probably going to be made sooner or later but the creative liberties that they took are not ones I agree with.

Yes, it was comedic, but it was also heart-warming. It was about friendships, fighting (winning and losing), learning lessons, getting back up and fighting again. In this adaptation, those qualities remain to be seen.

What was wrong with the clips? Carl, it sounds like your just jumping on the “LETS HATE DRAGONBALL FOR NO REASON” bandwagon. You claim they are ruining your childhood, and that they arent sticking to the source material, but if your a “fan” you would know that Dragonball had alot of comedy in it, when i see these clips i see Dragonball.

I’m a big DBZ fan but I’m not a fan who has to have my movie exactly the same as the source material. I didn’t think it looked that bad.

Carl I couldn’t agree more! To quote Bobby’s mom from the Waterboy “Fox is the Devil!” I don’t understand how they thought this could be a good idea. This may be a bigger flop than Speed Racer! Thank God they didn’t do a Z movie! I shudder to think how they would ruin the Prince of All Saiyans!
