I didn’t start watching 24 until recently, but now I try to catch it whenever I can. I must admit, seeing Air Force One shot down in the previous episode got a “yeah right” reaction out of me, but it’s still very well done. I like the “anything can happen” type of shows, and 24 certainly qualifies. (Hill Street Blues was another one.)

Screen Rant says:

For me the “over the top” aspect came in when I stepped back and took inventory of everything the terrorists managed to accomplish with (so far) less than 24 hours:

- Derail a train to steal a box that controls nuclear reactors across the country.

- Kidnap the Secretary of Defense and his daughter and broadcast SecDef’s confession on the internet.

- Cause a number of nuclear reactors to melt down.

- Shoot down Air Force One.

Take maybe any two of those and it might not stretch the bounds of reality too much, but ALL of it plus taking the time to engineer a distraction with the trade of Jack Bauer and the teenager?

Bit much, methinks. But I still think the show rocks. :P
