24 season 7 24 Season 7 Discussion

So it’s finally really begun again – another riveting season (7) of Fox TV’s 24.

Less than two months ago we were given the “Day 7″ teaser called 24: Redemption, which gave some backstory for what will happen over the next 24 hours (Jack Bauer time). I stated in the comments on that post that it looks like the show has recovered from its “jump the shark” season 6 and seems to be back in fine form.

And tonight’s two hour season premiere continues the “24 is BACK” feeling.

The episode opened with Jack Bauer (Keifer Sutherland, looking a lot older and more ragged than when we first met him) in front of a Senate committee, being grilled by a senator in an obvious set up that will lead to his indictment. He is called away by the FBI in order to help track down domestic terrorists led by Tony Almeida (Carlos Bernard), thought to be dead.

Jack is partnered up with FBI agent Renee Walker (Annie Wersching), a smart and capable agent who grudgingly goes along with Jack’s “special” way of doing things. There’s an informant at the FBI and he convinces her that until we know who that is, she can’t trust anyone. Among the cast are Chloe O’Brian (Mary Lynn Rajskub) – the socially inept but super-savvy computer geek (she hasn’t appeared yet and I miss her already). In her place (at least initially) we have another female computer geek, Janice Gold, played by (if you can believe it) Janeane Garofalo. Knowing her political stance on things and the fact that this show skews Conservative, I’m really stunned to see her on it.

Also returning to the show will be the stalwart Bill Buchanan (James Morrison, also not yet seen). Another new person is smarmy, sarcastic computer expert Sean Hillinger (Rhys Coiro), who no doubt will be getting a comeuppance at some point during the season.

The newly elected, and first female President (Allison Taylor) has to make a decision on invading a foreign country (as seen in “Redemption”) where a rebel leader is committing genocide in the hundreds of thousands. This of course dovetails with the local terrorists with which Almeida is involved. At this point it’s not clear if he really has “gone bad,” but I suspect he’s trying to infiltrate and uncover something big.

In any case, I thought we needed a central discussion point here at Screen Rant for the 7th season of 24, so here you go!

  1. This was my first time watching 24 and I liked it…cant wait for tomorrow…Jack Bauer kicks ASS!

  2. How long before the neopacifist FBI chick is gouging out eyeballs or snipping off toes, and LIKING IT? I say before January is out. And Garofilo–I say she’s in stilted conversation with her mental doppelganger Chloe before the clock strikes.

  3. I am a huge fan of the show 24 and tonights episode was great. I think this season is gearing up to be one of the best and will have lots of surprises in it.

  4. Vic, I’m disappointed to know in advance who is going to show up this season. I’m sure this info is “all over the internet” but until now, I was able to let the story play out.

  5. I think Tony Is undercover too.
and I think its a wimpy cop out.
I am hoping that ultimately Tony is running his own game on everyone.
If they are going to advertise friend versus friend then lets really see it!

  6. Like Bal, my first time watching he show and I’m hooked. I own the first season on DVD but haven’t watched it yet. Might have to have a “24″ hour marathon this weekend. :)

  7. I agree with Gary. I don’t think that Tony is totally crooked. I also think that female FBI agent is up to something. I think she is using Jack. To me she was just far to accomodating

  8. Anybody care to translate some rating numbers for me ?
the first hour of 24 came in at 7.0/10.
And 7.1/10 in the second hour.
looks like its a little better in the second .
zap2it describes it as “A solid start”
How many viewers is that ?
and how does it compare to past 24 premieres?

  9. I believe the female press is played by Cherry Jones, and her character’s name is Allison Taylor, unless you were purposely saying the President’s name is Allison and not played by Allison. Anyhoo. I guess I was one of those people who wasn’t bowled over by the Redemption movie, and I love 24. And yeah, I think it’s pretty obvious Tony is undercover, the way he kept wanting to know more about the bad guy’s operations. Sounds like a mole to me.

  10. Remember you can also check out the Official 24 Fox Fan Community Wiki at:

The people there are great and the structure has been improved much since the last train-wreck incarnation of the Official Fan website. Same with their Sarah Connor Wiki effort. Great stuff.

  11. So far the first two hrs are terrific. Shows back on track!

  12. DUDE the 2 hrs on Monday were INSANE!!!!! 24 is back!

  13. Yeah baby, this series is back. Man, I’ve missed it!

  14. Re: Monday’s episodes

So far no long-lost relatives…and I hope it stays that way. Though I’m sure Kim is the surprise mastermind behind it all.

Interesting how they predictably, but entertainingly, juxtaposed Chloe with Janeane Garofalo’s character.

And, looks like I was right about the FBI woman discovering the joys of torture before the month was out.

  15. @Sylar’s Hunger

Well now that the spoilers are out of the way, eh? :-)

  16. Awesome! I am so hooked on htis show…One dissapointment was to see and almost hear J.Garafolo….could barely understand her and she looks like she has no computer skills at all….Please tell me this is a one or two episode deal…..

  17. With the first 4 episodes of the season under our belts, I have to say that I am very excited about Day 7 thus far. It seems like the writers haven’t missed a beat when it comes to action and suspense. If the rest of the season is as good as the first 4 hours, this is going to be one helluva ride!!!

  18. Vic, my post said re: Monday’s Ep. so that was a spoiler warning.

Don’t tell me now, but if my sarcasm about Kim turns out to be true, I will be found running out of the room pulling my hair, screaming, and jumping out the window. (And I’m in a basement apartment.)

  19. Just watched the first two episodes from sunday’s 2-parter and it was EPIC!

Now I know why I love this show – what high production quality, action and drama and it never disappoints me like so many big budget films do.

I haven’t watched monday’s 2-parter yet but I will this weekend – My prediction is that Tony and Jack will have to partner up and work together against something

  20. Well that was quick – they are working together in eps 3 and 4, lol-

  21. This season and its writers are bad! When did Jack, Chloe and Tony become nazi like mass murderers?? So Tony were awared what that CPI device could do and because of their “lets reveal a conspiracy plan” hundreds of thousands are dead in africa because us troops couldnt intervene ?? im sorry for 24
