’21 Jump Street’ Sequel Already In the Works

1 year ago by Kofi Outlaw

21 Jump Street 2 Sequel 21 Jump Street Sequel Already In the Works

Sony hasn’t even proven that the 21 Jump Street reboot – starring odd pair Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill – is going to play well at the box office – but they’re banking on the fact that it will. Literally.

E! reports the exclusive that a 21 Jump Street sequel is already in the works – and that’s coming right from the mouth of one of the film’s stars.

Hill reportedly dropped the following to E! during the 2012 Oscars this past weekend:

“We are writing the sequel now…We got [the greenlight] by the studio to start writing the sequel.”

The actor also had the following to say about the first film – and if true, it would explain why the studio is willing to gamble on a second installment:

“It’s punk rock…It’s total mayhem. It’s two young-looking cops going to back to high school and they party with high school kids and go crazy….I’d say it’s the funniest movie I’ve ever been in—that and Superbad. It’s like a two-hour or hour-and-a-half party.”

The 21 Jump Street red-band trailer came out of the gate and made something of a dent in all the negative perception, primarily by not being as terrible as so many had predicted it would be. There’s only been increased buzz as the general public has become aware of the film: in most theaters I’ve been in where the trailer screened, people have, by and large, been sold on the (literally) sophomoric humor of this buddy cop flick. Add bonuses like having a cameo by Johnny Depp are only going to help the film’s chances.

I say all that to say: there’s no reason right now to expect 21 Jump Street to flop. The modern Hollywood system is one that waits for no man (or movie) in pursuit of profit – and that means sometimes betting on a win before it’s even in the bag. Hopefully Sony won’t isn’t repeating Warner Bros.’ mistake of betting on a Green Lantern 2 before Green Lantern 1 even had a chance to disappoint.

On the other hand, those who have been waiting for J.J. Abrams to get Star Trek 2 into theaters (4 years when all is said and done) are probably friendly to the idea of keeping sequels coming sooner rather than later. Having already scheduled a date for Amazing Spider-Man 2 before the first is even out, and now 21 Jump Street 2 moving forward, Sony is clearly playing the long term game, and showing confidence in their properties, to boot.

Hopefully it all works out for moviegoers.

21 Jump Street will be in theaters on March 16, 2012.

Well, I guess that it’s official. The fact that this bothers me is an indication that I’m old. Not nostalgic… but old. I suppose there will always be the DVDs (and other media) that store the original series, right?

I had doubts that this movie wouldn’t go along with the original series, but having seen the trailer in the theaters & catching the line “we’re bringing back a program from the 80s”, that had me sold. So it’s not an adaptation of the series, but something new. I can work with that.

But, if it’s not an adaptation of the series (nor even the series in spirit), then why call it “21 Jump Street”? (Well, that is beyond the typical Hollywood/corporate reasoning of taking advantage of a pre-existing property’s wellknown name and exploiting moviegoers who are familiar with the show)

I saw the trailer on TV today and before I even knew what it was, I was thinking how TERRIBLE this movie is going to be. It looks DUMB, like Green Hornet dumb.

Some of my friends went to an advanced screening and told me it was hilarios. But, I just can’t get interested. I can’t stand Channing Tatum or Jonah Hill for that matter.

Looks like all the doubters were proved wrong. Great movie… makes us all quiver in anticipation of the sequel. I like Tatum as a quirky funny guy much more than the sappy crap he usually does.

Lame like your profile picture? The only thing lame about that movie was that the lead girl wasn’t hott. And wouldn’t she have been like 17?? He kisses her, but he is like 29 and she is 17… umm, rape anyone?

This reboot looks terrible. I won’t be seeing this or even redboxing it and I definitely won’t be seeing the sequel. I guess if you can make them on the cheap though, there is enough of an mindless audience to make them profitable (a sad but true reality). If people only understood that if they didn’t support these idiotic projects (with their money), Hollywood would stop making them.

This in no way appeals to me and I will not watch either movie.
I am starting to believe that Hollywood has a motive other than making money. It’s like an alien came to a producers meeting and promised to transport them to a paradise planet if they could meet some quota of crappy films by a certain date.

And there’s always a lot of industry politics involved.

Why is Hollywood pushing so hard to make the likes of Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill stars?

I don’t know about Jonah Hill but Channing Tatum is a young pretty boy, hollywood are always looking for pretty young people that attract other young people from the ages of 14 to 25 male & female.Just look at most of the young actors today, they can’t act but they’re attractive and they put people in the seats.Channing Tatum,Chris Evans,Ryan Reynolds there’s more but i can’t think of none at the moment. And don’t get me started on the female actresses, along time ago it was about looks but you also had to have talent to be respected but those times have changed.Damn it! why didn’t i become a actor?.

“I will not watch either movie because it’s so lame…” But you’ll write a paragraph on a blog post about it? Wooooowwwww… sad little nerd.

This looks really really bad. The trailer should have said “one’s annoying the other’s bland! Get ready for some truly uninspired comedy! someone might like it, just glad I don’t have to watch it.

I went to a screening last night, and while it doesn’t have much to do with the original other than the name and concept of undercover cops in school, it still turned out being a pretty funny movie. I’d say it’s worth the watch but not if you’re looking for nostalgia from the series.

My name is Jack Grey, I’m sixteen years old. I am a hard working and passionate actor, I have done acting over the years in stage schools and in school plays. I have seen on IMDB that there are only chaining and jonah in the film, so you could put me in the film to play one of the main characters. I hope you consider all I have said and consider me a part in the film. Thanks Jack Grey

I am sorry bud but this is screen rant not a sign up sheet. Also they have all the actors but they don’t release the names till right before the movie. Finally imbd is not the best trustful site. I’m sorry Jack but this film is also for more professional actors, you must start somewhere but this is not where. Good luck!
