The Golden Raspberry Award Foundation has announced its nominations for the 2016 Razzie Awards, a day before the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will reveal its nominations for this year's Academy Awards ceremony. While the minds behind the Razzies position their satirical awards show as an antithesis to the Oscars that (dis)honors the worst mainstream film releases for any particular year, the Razzies are known to favor the popular punching bags for the film-loving public - something that makes their nominations as predictable and conventional as the Oscar nods (if not more so), in several ways.

Case in point: in case there was ever any doubt, such films as Fifty Shades of Grey and the Fantastic Four franchise reboot have now officially landed multiple Razzie nominations, in areas that range from Worst Picture to Worst Remake, Ripoff, or Sequel. Meanwhile, Adam Sandler has continued to uphold his reputation as the Meryl Streep of the Razzie Awards (so to speak), by landing a Worst Actor nod for his work on such critically-derided films as The Cobbler and Pixels. However, Sandler and his frequent collaborators managed to avoid being "recognized" for their Netflix original movie, the western comedy The Ridiculous Six.

Perhaps the most interesting category among the various Razzie awards is the Razzie Redeemer Award, a relatively new award where filmmakers and/or actors who have "redeemed" themselves for previous misfires are honored. M. Night Shyamalan made the cut this year for his 2015 film The Visit - a found-footage-style horror comedy/thriller that was a favorite among a number of Screen Rant's editorial staff - as did Sylvester Stallone for his turn as an older Rocky Balboa in Creed. Stallone's now taken home a Golden Globe for his performance in the film too, so he's definitely the "front-runner" to secure this particular Razzie.
