2012 trailer 2 Latest 2012 Trailer: Impressive CGI, But Will That Be All?

The second trailer for Roland “disaster film” Emmerich’s apocalyptic 2012 has premiered online today, and we have it for you here. Now I’ll be honest and say that the grand vistas of destruction shown in this new trailer are very impressive, but the problem is that Roland’s films seem to rely on 80% “cool shots” and 20% plot and character.

Before I go on, check out the trailer below…

You can head over to Yahoo! Movies for the super-duper HD version.

This trailer amps up the disaster action about 1000% compared to the first one, and no doubt that destruction will be the main thing that puts butts in seats when the film opens. But if it’s anything like The Day After Tomorrow, those cool CGI shots won’t be enough to make you leave the theater feeling like you’ve seen something worthwhile.

Then again, what do I know? That eco-disaster/global-warming-will-be-the-death-of-us film made over $186MM in the U.S. and over half a billion dollars worldwide. Of course that could have been the impeccable timing of the release at the height of the climate change hysteria. I tend to wonder what, if any “message” 2012 will carry with it.

Don’t get me wrong, I’d LOVE for this to turn out to be a kick-ass film, and yes, I’m clear on the concept of a “popcorn movie,” but it needs to make viewers care about the main characters being affected by the disaster, otherwise it’s just watching earthquake and flood footage on the evening news. Seeing John Cusack and Chiwetel Ejiofor (the assassin from Serenity) does give me some hope that perhaps the film will indeed deliver some of that needed character connection – we’ll just have to wait and see.

2012 has been pushed back from its July release date to November 13, 2009.

  1. I think that the fasination with the apocalypse is a reflection of the overall discontentment all over the world.
Let’s face it, a handfull of super rich elites run this world/country and control all the information. There’s only so much a mass conciousness can handle.
Were in the middle of an awakening right now with availibilty of information on the web.

The men behind the curtain have never been so exposed…

  2. I’m also one that believe the end won’t happen on a pre-selected date.

The end of all life on Earth could be a shift in dimensions. Depends how you view it,,,

Leaving the corrupt Earth behind and transfering to an alternate Earth, could be a possibility?
(This is part of the story in the film) btw,,,,,,,, 8-O

  3. @ 790

“There’s only so much a mass conciousness can handle”

I disagree..I think it can handle anything if disciplined(trained) properly..

I thought the Wizard of Oz was behind the curtain.. ;)

“a handfull of super rich elites run this world/country and control all the information.”

Like Mike Myers in So I Married AN Axe Murderer”

Stuart Mackenzie: Well, it’s a well known fact, Sonny Jim, that there’s a secret society of the five wealthiest people in the world, known as The Pentavirate, who run everything in the world, including the newspapers, and meet tri-annually at a secret country mansion in Colorado, known as The Meadows.

Tony Giardino: So who’s in this Pentavirate?

Stuart Mackenzie: The Queen, The Vatican, The Gettys, The Rothschilds, *and* Colonel Sanders before he went tits up. Oh, I hated the Colonel with is wee *beady* eyes, and that smug look on his face. “Oh, you’re gonna buy my chicken! Ohhhhh!”

Charlie Mackenzie: Dad, how can you hate “The Colonel”?

Stuart Mackenzie: Because he puts an addictive chemical in his chicken that makes ya crave it fortnightly, smartass!

Probably not too far from the truth..

  4. Sorry 790 my response has been flagged for moderation..Is Vic one of these elite you are talking about..I’m not saying the world will end but the date will be significant..Like Dec 7th, July 4th, etc…it will have meaning..

  5. I’m fighting back the laughter right now you guys are a right. Have you ever thought about going on the road?

  6. CAre to explain your comment Daniel ?

  7. Lol, no Vic’s a nice guy, there was prob a word in there that caught the spam filter Mk2000′s electronic eye!!

  8. yeah it was t!ts as I quoted a Mike Myers film

  9. You said wealthy elites controlling money and information..I’m paraphrasing.. and I quoted Mike Myers from “So I Married AN Axe murderer”

  10. @greenknight

Your comment got caught by the spam filter for some reason, it wasn’t flagged for moderation (those are two different filters).

    Vic

  11. Like I’ve said before GK333 we have to get to 2012 first. There’s alot of crap I see coming before then.

Daniel, is living under conventional logic in a world were the truth is right there on CNN.
And don’t question it unless you want to be taken as a fool GK333.

  12. I question everything 790 that’s the reason I am always getting myself in trouble at work..

  13. I’m just living in a world of logic period. I don’t believe everything that CNN tells me just like I also don’t believe anything that two or three really obscure sites that a bunch of guys with no merits of any kind run. I like to work with facts and science and not just look for the most insane news bit and believe it or you know I believe in the truth however you want to say it. I guess just saying I’m not crazy so my beliefs are not nearly as entertaining as others. I guess at the end of the day though 790 you probably have a lot more fun than I do because you get to just say a bunch of crazy things out of left field and I imagine that’s probably pretty fun.

  14. Personally I’m just glad that Nicolas Cage isn’t in this movie

  15. Well GK333 I can’t tell where you stand anymore, but yes a handfull of ppl do run this world. I could provide site links but I know that Vic won’t allow it, so I all I can do is give you my opinion.

Call them whatever. Buildebergs, nazi’s Rockafellers, illuminatti.

The bloodline relationships and history are out there if you look for them.
Most people can’t accept this because they live in a perpetual state of denial or what they call reality. Others fly the flag and vote.

  16. I wasn’t under the impression that anyone’s beliefs should be viewed as “entertaining” Daniel but this coming from you doesn’t suprise me at all as you really do come across as someone who is a little socially inept to say the least..or are you drunk again?

  17. Nope this time I’m very sober. Beliefs can be very entertaining. It’s like that guy that stands on the street corner yelling “The End is Near” or “Who Watches the Watchmen” you know the crazies.

I don’t like the term socially inept I prefer the term doesn’t give a S… I believe in honesty above all else and I refuse to lie or sprinkle candy on the truth. I call it how I see it.

  18. Daniel, One day you’ll get past societies mental blocks on the facts and the truths that have been kept from you.
Hopefully for both of us this will happen on this plane of existance.

I do feel bummed that so many ppl are under “mind control.” I usually get no pleasure taking a stand for what I know is the truth. Most people like you laugh or call me a fool.
I get the sameb thing when I explain to people how underhanded obama is.
    Its no different overall.
I’m trying to wake ppl up. That’s all.
    One day you will understand.

  19. You’re full of S all right…You like to say your honest above all else but you are someone hides behind a pseudo-face of honesty when in actuality the “truth” you are speaking is just an ignorant point of view from someone who probably just doesn’t know any better. Just calling it how I see it..

  20. I’m guess you both smoke a lot of weed. This plane of existence ? Are you serious?

  21. Actually I don’t touch the stuff..High on life dude!! Great family..great job..great life!! DOn’t drink either in case you’re wondering…I find people who drink to get drunk or do drugs are trying to escape from their miserable existence..HOw bout you Daniel?

Read up on vibrational frequencies Daniel..there are plenty of auditory frequencies we as humans never pick up but other animals do..like dogs for examples..but hey if you can’t hear it then I guess by your logic dogs are crazy too..read a book or two and stop being argumentative just because you can..there are types of light like UV that we cannot pick up with the naked eye but I guess they don’t exist either..that’s just more crazy talk.

  22. Oh I forgot your an atheist Daniel.
You should read some books on near death experiences.

  23. Or he could just try reading 790…I guess the poor guys gotta start somewhere.

  24. You know, you can find “connections” between anything and anyone if you look hard enough. It’s whether these connections actually mean anything that really matters and that’s what is so subjective and victim of conspiracy theorists’ interpretations. Of course some of these connections are just plain made up, but not all of them.

We don’t live in a digital world, you can’t act like you either listen to everything CNN tells you or you believe in conspiracies, or “enlightened to the truth” as I’m sure you’ll prefer to call it. The truth can be a whole lot more logical and unfortunately for 790, boring. News corporations are controlled not by some magical society but by rich individuals with their own agendas. Their agenda trickles down in the form of the type of people they put into the executive positions, then they hire people based on that same belief, etc. etc. until in the end the news is exactly what the corporation’s head want to promote. It’s slightly short of a conspiracy theory, I know 790, but it’s still more than what you would know simply by WATCHING the end result which is CNN news.

I sometimes chuckle at the more extreme beliefs, but ultimately, it’s their beliefs, and like I’ve said before, you can’t PROVE that it isn’t true unless you happen to know everything about everything. So no need to make a big fuss over it. I’ve poked fun at 790 before, but that’s my job, to annoy him, lol. I hope you don’t take it too personally 790, just messing with you really.

And another thing 790, if you’re really so serious about all of the conspiracy theories you talk about, then I don’t know why you’re online, you can be tracked that way, the things you say are probably being read, you probably have like 1000 red flags to your name, what happened to staying under the radar? And I assume you don’t have a cell phone right? Because they can track you using that, easily. That’s actually the truth! lol.

  25. Awwww, how cute, he’s trying to sound condescending… I just want to pinch those cheeks!! lol ;-)

    Just kidding dude.

  26. Umm Greenknight I understand that there are plenty of different frequencies that dogs hear and we don’t, but that’s not a plain of existence. It’s a sound at a different frequency.

790 You should try watching documentaries exposing near death experiences or even reading one of the books.

  27. Fortunitly for me Kenster,, (can I call you that?)
I’m a military brat and all my relatives are in the armed forces…

How do you think I know all this crap.
    Lol, ;-)

  28. Well, UNFORTUNATELY your military parents didn’t teach you proper grammar and spelling! :-D lol, just kidding dude, and no, don’t call me Kenster, 790…er… doesn’t work… Ah, whatever, you can call me whatever, it just sounds too much like hamster…

  29. Again you missed my point. It exists outside the range of how we normally percieve…It is vibrating at frequencies we can’t pick up with our senses..so too do other planes of existence vibrate and therefore fail to be visualized by our senses..More of that crazy talk Daniel..but if you’ve never read any of the science behind harmonics and vibrational frequencies I guess you wouldn’t know much about it…
