  • Matt Keith
Looks to be a fun film.
  • Sorry, but I just can't get myself to care about this film. The more I see, the less I'm interested... but mayhap I'll be surprised. Who knows?

As long as the effects arent over in the first half (ID4 and Day) and the script is halfway good, I will love it

    @ Vic

"I tend to wonder what, if any “message” 2012 will carry with it."

From the looks of the trailer..destroy the Vatican, hence the Catholic Church, destroy the military and the Western seat of power the White House, wash away all the evil we have created andrely on your self for survival and being a part of a family will ensure success in whatever you do..

Why is he so damned preachy?!
  • The Voice of Reason
the story will be weak and they just showed all the good parts in the trailer. what else is there to see?

I think that this a very good assesment.Emmerich's movies always seem to do this, whether it be subtle or you are beaten over the head with it.

Emmerich is starting to become the new George Lucas to me.He presents you with these amazing images in the trailers the get you all lathered up,but NEVER delivers on a good, solid story. And,obviously I'm talking about later Lucas screen ventures.

I intend to start a new "Sense-suround" trend with this movie. I will take a bucket of water, A twelve volt battery, shaved ice, dirt, and rocks with me into the theater, as well as numerous slightly damaged action figures, boat and airplane models and the like. During the tumultuous sequences of the end of the world as we know it, I will immerse myself into the story by dumping water, ice, and dirt on myself while flinging the toys about in a haphazard fashion due to the electrical charge being zapped into me by the battery. Once the upheaval has subsided...I will attempt to save myself in order to live long enough to experience the real thing!
  • Gotta say, Emmerich is a master with visuals - if only his movies were as good overall as those dramatic scenes of destruction.

Apocalyptic eye candy, will give you cinmatic diabetes...
  • Xigbar
The visual metaphors or whatever you'd call them are a tad heavy-handed.
The Sistine ceiling bit, the whole thing with the Aircraft carrier.
Yeesh, be a little more subtle.
  • 790
LOL, I'm hoping there's a scene after the credits where we see some ufo's haul ass off the Earth just then it totally explodes in slow mo !!!

    Get it over with!!
  • Foopher
So what happens in 2013 when people are watching this like "Well this never happened"?
  • JessSayin
    20% plot and character, Vic?

    You're being uncharacteristically generous!

    (The cg WAS bad ass!)

Truth is, we're ALL gonna go see it.
Maybe matinee, maybe with a pass but we will.
  • Foopher
The CGI is impressive though i'll give it that, but so is the CGI in transformers

Hahaa !!!! Joshi, I agree that the world won't end on December 21st 2012, but between now and then the world will change,,, ;-)

    I guarantee it,,,
  • Ken J
All I know is that on December 19 - 22, all of my friends and I will be going on a "road trip" to middle america away from skyscrapers, shores, and fault lines, lol. Just in case, and it'll be fun anyway, I like road trips with good friends.
  • 790
What?????? I thought you didn't believe in conspiracies Ken??????

You want this don't you,,, lol,,,
  • Ken J
Well this isn't technically a "conspiracy" since it isn't "conspired" by people, as if one group or person is controlling everything.

But no, I don't really believe anything will happen, when I first heard about the year 2012 being the end of the world, literally my first thought was "Oh crap, I hope the end of the world waits until AFTER The Avengers movie." Then I heard the date was supposed to be Dec. 21 and that calmed my "fears" lol.
  • 790
HAHaaa,,,, yeah I guess your right.
  • Ken J
I'm seriously going to do this roadtrip though, it should be pretty fun lol. Unless we all get sick of each other...
  • 790
Sounds cool Ken, I've had my share of cool road trips, sounds like a cool plan,,, I personally don't think the world will end or even change on that date. However things could get intense before then,,,,,

    Don't forget the MRE's,,, ;-)
  • Ken J
I saved some of the good ones, Beef Stew, Grilled Chicken, Spaghetti... The chicken ones tend to come with M&M's, which isn't a big deal now, but when you've been deprived of snacks and junk food for over a month, those babies become prized, lol. Another thing I really liked are the shortbread cookies some come with... When I got that, I would trade something with someone for Strawberry jelly and make some strawberry shortbread cookies, mmmm that was so good...

If you're ever offered any MRE's, never, and I stress, NEVER eat the Breakfast Omelette... The "egg" is a flat rectangular thing that literally tasted like foam...
  • 790
When I was a military brat kid (70's) one time I opened up all my dads MRE's just for the chocolate cookies.

Looking back on that it was a mistake...
  • Ken J
LOL, well, not sure how it was then, but now-a-days, everything within them are individually packed anyway, so even if you open the outer pouch, the other stuff inside will stay good for a little while still. But speaking of which, I should probably eat some of mine and get new ones, they are probably getting close to not being good anymore, lol.
  • 790
Yeah they used to come in a little box that measured about 3x6x6. A small box. It wasn't even waterproof like the new mre containers.

The cookies & beans were good though.
But you had to provide the flame to cook the beans etc. They came with matches, kleenex, and a can opener. ;-)

    Ah good times.
  • Ken J
Kleenex? I'm thinking you're talking about the paper they gave that was really used for wiping something else other than your mouth, lol. Well, they had both, they had a small napkin for wiping your mouth, then a larger "portion" of paper that you kept with you for "later."
  • English Gavz
The only thing I can imagine this film doing is creating mass panic and lighgting the flames for conspiracy theoriests everywhere. Chrsitmas 2012 is gonna be a fun occasion.
  • Ken J
Hey, I've been on the USS John F Kennedy!! They can't destroy it! lol
  • kelly
looks to be good id have to say!
