I think that the element of goofiness in this scene is something that had been missing from all of the previous press and indicates a completely different kind of movie than I had been expecting. And of course this isn’t a serious film. I’m not sure how you make a serious end of the world film other than Deep Impact, which was just depressing. I will however be annoyed if the end of the world is blamed on the US and global warming. I’m tired of watching that horse get beat.

The Rubber Neck Syndrome! It will also get you in the theater to see "When Worlds Collide," which is slated in theaters in the coming years. I've enjoyed every single one of his films I've seen so far, except maybe for 10,000 BC, which just fell a tiny bit flat for me. Not quite enough "fun" in it. And I regularly watch his critically (and fan) panned Godzilla and enjoy every second of it. I know what a "good" film is. Does mean I can't enjoy a popcorn flick too.
