2011 Razzie Award Nominations 2011 Razzie Nominations: Last Airbender, Twilight: Eclipse Lead The Pack

Memories of cinematic dreck released in 2010 lingers on in our collective consciousness, even with the promise of more disappointing sequels and undesired franchise rejuvenation (see – the Lethal Weapon reboot) to arrive in the future. Enter the diabolical minds behind the Razzie Awards.

Nominees for the 31st Annual Razzie Awards have been announced and M. Night Shyamalan’s much-derided TV show adaptation, The Last Airbender, and The Twilight Saga: Eclipse are the leaders in the contest to be officially ordained the “best of the worst” in 2010.

Worst Picture nods were handed out to both Shyamalan’s Last Airbender – which our own Rob Keyes described as  “a poorly constructed film with no sense of plot, character or emotion” – and the third Twilight film. The other three competitors in the category include the Jennifer Aniston/Gerard Butler rom-com The Bounty Hunter; Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer’s latest spoof snafu, Vampires Suck; and the TV show-turned-movie sequel, Sex & the City 2.

While two of the most widely-disliked features of 2010 – Jonah Hex and Little Fockers – failed to make the cut for the “big prize,” both snagged nods in the areas of acting and screenwriting, respectively. Jack Black was also “recognized” for his work on Gulliver’s Travels, while Sylvester Stallone landed a spot on the Worst Director list for his (shoddy) work on The Expendables (for a taste of Sly’s approach to filmmaking, watch this featurette).

New to the mix this year is Worst (or is that best?) Eye-Gouging Misuse of 3D, which unsurprisingly includes both the Clash of the Titans remake and the little-seen but generally despised Nutcracker 3D. Early prediction – Titans easily walks away with the gold-painted fruit statue for this category.

  1. I know that all of these movies suck…but I think that the Bounty Hunter should lead the pack….I mean that movie was BEYOND CRAP….

  2. imo sly would have to take the award for worst director, the movie was bad mainly due to the terrible camera work and even worse editing (the choreography for the fights/shoot-outs and vehicle scenes) is questionable though not so bad (compared to other movies of the genre).

    • I’m sure the Justin Bieber’s movie will be more to your liking.

  3. Well if I may:

    The Last Airbender (Paramount/Nickelodeon Movies)

    Jack Black (Gulliver’s Travels)

    Megan Fox (Jonah Hex)

    Cher (Burlesque)

Billy Ray Cyrus (The Spy Next Door)

Worst Eye-Gouging Misuse of 3D – didnt see any of those in 3D.

The Entire Cast of The Last Airbender

    M. Night Shyamalan (The Last Airbender)

The Last Airbender – written by M. Night Shyamalan, based on his opium dreams and watching half an episode on his iphone.

    The Last Airbender

    :D

  4. It’s a shame the best movie of the year (The newest Resident Evil) got snubbed in so many deserving categories….. screenplay, supporting actor, ensemble, 3D, and overall worst movie.

  5. Scar Jo should be up for “worst supporting character” in Iron Man 2 as Black Widow. Just because she’s hot shouldn’t make her excempt.

    • Skyline had something going for it that no other alien invasion movie has had: honesty. Like Stephen Hawking said, if the aliens “don’t come in peace”, then we’re all boned. A glass of water isn’t going to save us, and neither is Jeff Goldblum.

      • no skyline was the first movie i ever wanted my money back for…quite possibly the worst action movie of all time…stealing brains? sooooooo stupid!!! terrible acting, terrible set only thing good was the special effects…dinner for shmucks was the worst of the year thou

    • Dude, my thing is if you’re a hot superhero then you get an instant pass.

      • Then Halle Berry and Jeniffer Gardner get a pass for CATWOMAN and ELEKTRA?

        • Yes, I say this reluctantly but yes.

  6. Sorry to say, but I think people went off wayy to hard on The Last Airbender.. My little cousin loved it (11 years old) as did my brother about the same age. I understood that it wasn’t as good as the cartoon, but yeah it wasn’t as horrible as many people made it out to be.

  7. LAST AIRBENDER!! Definitely. When I was watching it, it felt like the movie was literally crapping into my eyes. It’s awful. M.Night SHAMaylan ruined that franchise to the point of no return. He deserves all awards mentioned up there. Big time.

    • “…Crapping into my eyes.” Ahhhh Ha Ha Ha AHHHhhhh… Ha… Thank you for that! I never saw Airbender but I couldn’t stop laughing at the succinct visual which I believe can be applied to a variety of people, products and circumstances. I’m planning on incorporating this phrase into daily conversations for the forseeable future. Where should I forward the royalties?

    • Maybe it was. After all, it was in 3D, right?

  8. I feel Stallone did a great job with The Expendables, was it perfect? No, but the guy wrote it, directed it and stared in it.

And honestly, the Razzies are as important as the Oscars. They arent.

    • The Oscars are important. And The Expendables SUCKED.

      • The Oscars are not important and the Expendables didn’t suck.

        8)

        Vic

  9. Razzies are a complete waste of time. It’s not even funny, all of the movies nominated there are terrible but the idea of having an “award ceremony” for bad movies is just stupid.

    • Agreed 100%

  10. Well, if Airbender counts as a “remake/rip-off”, then so does Jonah Hex. If his movie had been made thirty years ago, then it would have been given the proper, played-straight Western treatment; probably would have gotten Clint Eastwood for the title role. Give it the slot that went to Clash of the Titans, because aside from the horrendous “3D”, it was actually pretty decent. Better than the first one, anyway.

  11. In “Vampire’s Sucks” defense, it is just a spoof, and it is better than the Twilight films.

  12. Sincerely… they’re completely going to overlook Fury Vengeance… Seriously?!?

  13. Aw man, I love the Razzies. Honestly, I look forward to them far more than the Oscars.

I love that Twilight is one of the leading films, as I had a huge argument with someone last year over whether or not Twilight would make the Razzies.

  14. I know there are many who did not like “THE LAST AIRBENDER” and “THE EXPENDABLES”, but I enjoyed them. Sorry!!! Everyone to their own taste!!

  15. I am not a fan of The Razzies but these movies deserve to be punished severely.

  16. I’m glad Resident Evil 4 dodged the bullet, it looked decent in 3D!

  17. It’s nice to see Jennifer Aniston getting some much-deserved recognition. I’d gladly watch a Jonah Hex/M.Night double feature rather than see one of her flicks. Of course, I liked Hex and Devil for sheer entertainment value. I’m a movie lover.

  18. My brain hurt after seeing Burlesque, and I’m surprised there weren’t more noms for that one. The bargain matinee price was even too much to pay to see it. That deserved one for Worst Movie, Worst Actress (Christina Aguilera), Worst Actor for whoever the male lead was, and especially Worst Script! They was robbed!

  19. I just do not get it..Eclipes was one of the best twilight movies.I love the twilights and am a Huge fan of all the actors and for them to make fun of such a great movie and saga is not right. There are Millions of twilight fans still that like me went and watched Eclipes two and three times.Has a copy at home and will stand by it as well as all the twilights. And the actors from all the Twilights. So Who Cares about an award when they have fans like us out there..

    • I enjoyed all 3 Twilghts, and I watch them over and over and can’t wait until the next two (1), come out. Not asking everyone to like it. So be nice. each is to his own!!!!

  20. Jennifer Aniston should be given a Razzie every year until she stops making those crappy movies acting like a 20 year old, Aniston you are 42+ middle aged woman. Finally I know there’s a God!

  21. Last Airbender deserves to win all categories but if it doens’t win: Worst Screenplay or Worst Acting then the whole thing is a bloody fix!!
