Maybe I’m just out of touch with today’s youth culture, but as I look over this “winners list” from the 2009 MTV Movie Awards, I can’t help but feel like a crotchety old man who complains about the kids today with their loud music and funny ways of talking. The Twilight Saga wiped the floor with the competition, proving that vampire romance is the current king of pop culture, for better or worse.

In the interest of fairness, Screen Rant presents the complete list of winners from the 2009 MTV Movie Awards. Be wary, though: your head may explode as you read which actors and films lost to Twilight.

Is your head still in one piece?

twilight bella edward 01 Twilight Sweeps The 2009 MTV Movie Awards

Maybe I’m being unfair to the MTV Movie Awards – after all, these winners were chosen by fan votes, reflecting the democratic consensus of America’s youth. Hell, maybe Zac Efron WAS a better male performer than Robert Downey Jr. or Christian Bale, and maybe Twilight WAS a better film than The Dark Knight, Iron Man, or even Slumdog Millionaire (after all, what is an Oscar for Best Picture compared to an MTV online poll?). And Miley Cyrus beating out Bruce Springsteen in a Best Song category? Makes total sense to me!!!

I’m too old to spend more than five minutes watching MTV these days but some (read: two) highlights from last night’s Awards broadcast included a never-before-seen clip from Transformers: Revenge of The Fallen and the long-awaited debut of the first trailer for The Twilight Saga: New Moon. Other than that…

What do you think about the winners of the 2009 MTV Movie Awards? Do you agree with the results, or do you feel like this awards show needs to be taken out back behind the shed and shot?

  1. Wow, I must be a crotchety old woman … :/

I liked Twilight, but… not that much.

  2. I’m not one bit suprised that “Twilight” one “best movie” b/c the whole audience was tween girls….oh well its a good thing this show is meaningless. I couldn’t even watch the entire show. I had to leave when the presenters for “Best WTF Moment” came on b/c they were sooo annoying. I’m just glad I got to see the footage for “Transformers Revenge of the Fallen” within the first 15 minutes.

  3. This is ridiculous. The only time Twilight was nominated and didn’t win was for best song.

Oh, and Jim Carrey in Yes Man was no where near as funny as James Franco in Pineapple Express.

  4. Heh, this seems like a list from Nickelodeon not MTV, weird.

  5. MTV? What is that an acronym for, Moron TeleVision? :-)

Don’t get your PSPs all twisted up, you teens, I was kidding. All those winners have to be a joke, except for Heath Ledger’s Joker. I had no desire to see any of those films and the little I saw of Twilight made me yawn. Next thing we’ll see is the US government buying out Hollywood and then all we’ll see are green films about how Conservatives are destroying the world.

  6. Congrats to the Twilight peeps for sweeping the Movie Awards tonight! Only the best!

  7. They should call this the Kids Choice Awards,,, or maybe the Teen Choice awards ??? Oh I forgot they already have those shows,,,

Anyone see the photos of M&M getting ass face from Bruno..?
Had to be the best part of the show.

And finally thanks to mtv thousands of little kids now know what “WTF” stands for… That’s just irresponsible. :-(

  8. ” I think I just threw up alittle in my mouth’

  9. where is the category for Best Upcoming Summer movie?
Thats right, only 1 Paramount major film coming out this summer…Transformers 2.

  10. @Kahless

A film about conservatives destroying the world? Would that be considered a documentary?

  11. I didn’t even know MTV was relevant anymore. Their “awards” are even more useless to me than Twilight itself. Actually, pretty much ANY award is useless to me. That was proved to me a long time ago when Jethro Tull won a Grammy for best METAL band over Metallica.

  12. 790 in order for it to be considered Teen choice there would of had to be teens voting I think your giving the voters for that show to much credit. The awards sucked, but I will say the show it’s self was funny. I loved Eminem being a little b**** and the Classical rendition of Dick in a box was awesome.

Kofi Outlaw Nope it would be considered useless propaganda garbage right up there with all the Micheal Moore Garbage.

  13. lol Borat 69’d Eminem

  14. Yea and Eminem bitched out and acted like a little girl.

  15. Are you serious? I would have kicked Borat’s ass up and down the aisle.

  16. It was all in good fun I think it was the b**** move for him to basically start crying and walk out.

  17. Don’t be fooled. It was a arranged. Either that or Eminem has the reflexes of an old man not to be able to get out of the way of some slowly descending twig and berries.

Do you think it’s coincidence that Em is promoting an album right now and Baron Cohen is promoting a film? Hmmmmm…..

  18. And careful, Vic. No telling if one of these days you might be sitting in one of these award shows (press box). Claims of kicking Borat’s ass will get you set up for a t-bag, since apparently that’s what goes over at MTV.

  19. Em is a pretty decent actor because honestly, lets just say that it happened for real I doubt Sacha would stay in character with Em’s bodyguards kicking his but for doing such a thing AND where was police involvement?
    Still, Em is pretty good.

  20. @Daniel F

“Good fun?” Not in my world.

True, hadn’t thought of that. :)

  21. LOL, Vic,,,

    I don’t think m&m was in on it…

How can he just leave that behind,,, and walk out?

  22. Ima Twi-Hard and these wins just show how deticated and loyal us fans are to Twilight…I loved other movies in the categories, but i am in love with Twilight, the books EXCELLENT, and jus to see it portrayed at all no matter how flawed is jus unreal…So if Iron or Dark Knight had fans as good as Twilight then they would have won, We twilighters love Twilight and we will alwasy support it…

  23. Hard to believe that you actually read the novels with all the spelling and grammatical errors in your post.

  24. ” I would have kicked Borat’s ass up and down the aisle.”

  25. BreeJ,

Thats b/c Mtv is crawling w/ tween girls.

  26. @Matt Keith, that would have been assault,,, and battery…

  27. BreeJ, when you wrote Twi-Hard I thought it was another adjective for someone addicted to Twitter. Glad was I wrong…or am I?

    Andy S, great comment 😀

  28. No i dont twitter its a name for a huge fan of Twilight, and Andy J i think ur comment qualifies as being a PERSONAL ATTACK, so forget you casue thats jus the way i type, and i bet i’ve readd more books in a week than you have in ur entil life…

  29. Seriousy you guys needa chill
