The Northern Regions of Hogwarts Legacy is a large region but does not have the most Merlin trial challenges. This zone is made up of the Forbidden Forest, the North Ford Bog, the North Hogwarts Region, and the Hogsmeade Valley. Of note, there are no Merlin trials within the Hogwarts Castle or within Hogsmeade Village.

Hogwarts Legacy Merlin Trial Locations: Northern Regions

17 Merlin Trials can be found in the Northern regions of the Hogwarts Legacy map.

Remember that activating each trial will require a Mallowsweet, of which the seeds can be purchased from The Magic Neep in Hogsmeade.

All Merlin Trials Solutions In North Ford Bog

1. North Ford Bog #1

This trial is a platforming puzzle. Look to the left and jump up the stones quickly without missing one. Once you get to the top the trial is over.

2. North Ford Bog #2

This trial has five stones that must be destroyed with a strong spell from Hogwarts Legacy. Three are hidden behind vines. Confringo can destroy the vines and the stones. The rest are standing on the cliffs above. Destroy all five and the trial is over.

3. North Ford Bog #3

This trial has three symbol cubes that must be flipped using Flipendo. Stand in front of one side and use the spell until that symbol matches the one beneath it both directionally and with the same image. If the first side doesn’t seem to click, try a different side. Be aware that there are also Inferi that spawn here, so be prepared to take them out first.

4. East North Ford Bog #1

There is a Poacher Tracker and a Dark Mongrel here, so take them out first. Many Merlin Trials will have enemies nearby, so don’t be afraid to pack extra potions from for trial hunting. Then activate the ring and look at the stone pillars. Use Confringo or something similar to knock the rocks off the top of them, and then climb onto the first one on either side. Jump from stone to stone around the semi-circle, without touching the ground.

5. East North Ford Bog #2

For this one, use Confringo or Incendio to remove the vines covering the depression in between three large stones. Then use Wingardium Leviosa to move the stone ball (on the hill above the three stones) into the depression.

6. Forbidden Forest #1

Have a blasting spell, such as Depulso, at the ready. Be prepared to take out Poachers and Mongrels as well. After that, find three sets of moths. One is behind a stone wall that must be blasted open. Use one of Hogwarts Legacy's signature spells, Lumos, to attract the moths to the three cubes around the clearing, which will have holes in the sides of them.

7. Forbidden Forest #2

There are three pillars with cauldrons on top of them. Use Confringo to light them all. They are a little hard to spot, particularly at night, so use Revelio to see their outlines if they aren’t immediately apparent.

8. Forbidden Forest/North Hogwarts Region

This one is another symbol cube puzzle. Use Flipendo as before to flip all three cubes until they match the pillars below. The two other pillars are below the initial platform near the water.

9. North Hogwarts Region #1

This is one of the easier puzzles in Hogwarts Legacy. For this one, once activated four sets of stones will appear and collapse. Use Reparo on all four to rebuild the statues.

10. North Hogwarts Region #2

Another cauldron puzzle, use Confringo on all three pillars with cauldrons to solve the puzzle. Note, one of the pillars is in the ruined tower and must be revealed using Confringo to remove the vines from in front of it.

11. North Hogwarts Region #3

This one is another moth puzzle. Use Lumos to attract the moths to the three cubes around the platform. Note, these puzzles can still be solved during the day.

12. North Hogwarts Region #4

This is a nine-pillar puzzle. There are nine pillars around that have some stones on top. Destroy all of them.

13. Hogsmeade Valley #1

This is the first puzzle near Hogsmeade, where the player buys things such as potion supplies and ingredients. This one is another standing stones puzzle where five stones must be destroyed. Confringo works very well for this puzzle. All five stones can be at least partly seen from the activation point.

14. Hogsmeade Valley #2

This is another light the cauldron puzzle. Use Confringo to light all three. For this one, the last pillar is up on some rocks and is fairly well hidden from the start point. It is easiest to light that one first and run back to the starting point and light the more easily seen two.

15. Hogsmeade Valley #3

This one requires the player to get a stone into a depression on the ground. The depression is downhill from where the activation point is. But the stone is near the top of the hill. Depulso can hit the stone onto the track where it will roll down the hill toward the depression. That should complete this puzzle in, however, be prepared to use Arresto Momento/Wingardium Leviosa to stop the stone and make sure it enters the depression.

16. Hogsmeade Valley #4

This one might be hard to get to. It is behind a castle wall, unable to be flown over, with no obvious path to it. However, there is a grate at the bottom of the castle wall, nearest to the front of the castle. Use one of the Force spells to open the grate. Follow the path up and the Merlin trial will be on the other side. It is a moth puzzle, so use Lumos to bring the moths to the three cubes. One set of moths is below the player and there is a climbing wall. Simply bring the moths to the wall, climb up, and reactivate Lumos. The moths will stay in place.

17. Hogsmeade Valley #5

This region of Hogwarts Legacy is nearly complete. There are poachers around, so take them out first. After that, it is another moth puzzle, same as the last one. Use the moths to light the cubes. Two of the sets of moths are behind the player up on a hill. The player will have to scale the hill and bring the moths down, as it is unable to be flown over. Lumos will not deactivate while jumping/falling down the hill.
